While I can't currently run a Skirmish campaign at my store, I'd like to try get people playing Skirmish going at my local GW. Skirmish is different enough from AoS that it shouldn't be affected by AoS 2 (with the exception of point values which can be recalculated into Renown). Does anyone who plays Skirmish regularly have any pointers for me?

Thanks

We have no skirmish presence around me. We do play path to glory though, but for our guys that like skirmish they do shadespire instead.

That's a shame. I really love he idea of being able to pick from any army out there and just enjoy the game with models you like to use not just the ones that GW has provided to work with the specific game (like Shadespire).

The issue that killed it for my community is the wild imbalances. Stuff that affects all units within x" can destroy whole enemy forces, one grundstock thunderer with drillbill can nearly solo an entire opponent's list if they don't have shooting, etc.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Play a LOT of skirmish around here, we make our own maps and scenarios as well. I would recommend painting up some roughly equal in ability (and renown) squads and have a narrative prepared for it, maybe even make some unique boards. Our last one was a city made using terraclips, with the narrative being skaven trying to scout out and undermine the city.

Most of the games we play would qualify as skirmish, but we don't use the supplement. We rather use home-made stuff heavily inspired in Mordheim.

That's nice, but not really relevant.

For myself, we had a lot of Skirmish going but once Path to Glory hit in force we switched to that for the most part. Skirmish is pretty awful between the weirdly specific lists(no Waywatchers for Wanderers? No Lord-Aquilor for Stormcast?) and it just doesn't represent the game proper well. When trying to bring people into the game, it's easier to do Path to Glory we found.

A couple of things we've done to help our skirmish games (and they've worked fantastic).

1. Shooting is limited to 9", we say they area of battle is shrouded with fog and mist.

2. No characters. You pick a regular "guy" to be your army commander (unit champion). It's a skirmish force. The general is going to pick a valued subordinate to lead his exploratory force, not go himself. No musicians or banner bearers.

3. Make sure the board is COVERED in terrain. COVERED.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I should add we use the Grand Alliance forum Skirmish points that include everything GW had made.
