First, welcome to Dakka and the Space Marines.
If you are using Guilman, you need to use Ultramarine tactics, at least for the part of the army that he’s with. You can use multiple detachments to mix-and-match, but I’d start simple. Ultras might not be the most competitive of the chapters, but they are solid, with good characters.
If you can find someone to split the Dark Imperium box with you, the primaris side of that makes a solid core to a list.
Scouts are a good troop pick. They fill the slot for cheep, and have nice deployment options which help with screening you other units and other board control tricks. Grabbing another squad might not be a bad idea. Tactical squads are OK, you can stick some firepower in there and get some special/heavy weapons on the table. Intercessors are another decent pic. There are pros and cons to all out troop picks, it depends a lot on what you like and need from them.
You could probably use a captain. 8th is very big on using auras to buff other units and leverage power. With both a captain and a Lt. buffing a squad, you get re-rolls on both to hit and wounds of 1. Big G does the same thing, but costs a lot of points and might not fit into you list at smaller point levels. Plus he can only be in one place at a time.
You are going to need some anti-tank firepower. Dev squads with LCs are a decent pick, or you could go with razorbacks/preds if you like a more mechanized list. Spamming plasma can also get the job done, but you will need the re-roll buffs to help mitigate overheating. Plasma also meshes nice with the ancients. If you do manage to roast yourself, there is a chance you get an extra shot off.
With marines there are a lot of ways you can build them. What appeals to you? Unless you are aiming for a top-table competitive list, there is room for just about anything. You might just have to jigger the rest of your list to cover/support the units you like, or to leverage their strengths. You only have a handful of guys, so it’s hard to give focused advice.
