Recently played a small tournament and wasn't able to completely finish off the games. Consistently completed four turns. I found that a couple of my opponents wanted to talk through "what would have happened" in order to get more points, but another opponent just kept the score as it was at the end of round 4. Just curious what is supposed to be done. If there are rounds that are left to be played at the end of the game, should we talk through and add more points from the rounds not played or should we just freeze the scores as it was at the end of the time limit?

You don't play it, you don't score it ...

So 'talking it out' is pretty common when you hit time because USUALLY both players stand to game some points from it. That said, it only can be done if BOTH players agree. So if you just want to call it as it is at that point you can.

Talking it out to score uncompleted turns is not supported in the ITC tournament packet. There is a clear procedure to score unplayed turns due to concession or tabling but you are not following those.

Absent approval from the TO you are just cheating players who legitimately finished their games to earn their scores or those who did not complete their full 6 turns but honestly reported their scores without inflation. Cheating honest players to give yourself or your opponent better tie breakers is bad.

The packet also doesn't say "pencils down". It just says the game ends at time. From my experience, you can literally walk up to a judge and say "we made it to round 3, talked through 4-5 and here's the result" and they just take the sheet with a "thank you".

Where there is a problem is if you let someone badger you into doing it. Don't badger people and don't let people bulldoze you. Stick to what you want to do on your end.
