I want to equip my hive tyrant with monstrous rending claws but there aren't any on the sprue and there aren't any in forgeworld.

Has anyone made any or kitbashed something to scale? - I have some spare tyranid warrior rending claws but they are too small.

The Broodlord's monstrous rending claw arms fit into Hive Tyrant arm sockets fairly well, but it seems a waste of a perfectly good Broodlord...

I've seen a few people take the arm from a Crushing Claw and build a "hand" from a mix of Scything Talons and carapace spines. I think there are a few examples of such versions in the Dakka gallery.

As above I've used the claws from the Broodlord on my Tyrant, and it works fairly well. While it does mean you effectively lose out on a Broodlord, it does mean you have use for spares incase you bought multiple of the new Start Collecting! boxes.

Just make sure that whatever you do can be undone and changed with a different weapon.

MRC are in a really weird situation, where they are free for a reason that isn't clear and yet it never got fixed. We have no idea if in a close or distante future these things will be given a point cost.

Would you still use them if they costed about 18 points? If the answer is yes, then you can glue them permanently, if not then use temporary measures.

I'd say a good many folks use the "feet" as the Talons, and rawk Brain Leeches on the arms. To each, their own.

Whatever solution you end up with, read up on how to pin with brass rod or something, gluing arms onto MC is a waste.

Just equip wings, they have the rending claws on them already and flying is amazing.

I used the hive guard "middle" limbs. The ones holding the space marine helmet and something else. They look okay but don't have giant nails.

I am magnatising my hive tyrant - including the head so I can use it as the Swarmlord as well.

Just thought that because I was going to all the effort of doing so, I might as well do every weapon option only to realise that it does not come with rending claws and devourers - I have spare devourers from my carnifex but nothing to make the rending claws...

I have another hive tyrant model that I will be using as a flyrant as I heard so many good things - also I have read that magnatising the wings are a nightmare so I'm thinking that I'll just going to glue them on.

While it's a little more complicated that magnetising regular limbs, it's not all that bad. You just need to drill a pin into the wing next to the magnet, and put a corresponding hole in the tyrants body next to the arm socket.
IMO it's worth doing even if you'll always use it as a flyrant. Removable wings makes transporting the model way easier.

What also works is sculpting an arm-socket with green stuff that supports the wings and then have the magnets (multi-stacks on the body side) sit in there just keep them from falling off to the sides.
This was my approach as I wanted to have a tyrant with legs and wings and have all 4 regular arm-sockets for weapon arms, so I put 2 extra ones on there for the wings anyways.
Looks a bit odd with the wings taken off, but otherwise fine.

For rending claws I am using (magnetized) crushing claws. From the Tyrannofex sprew I believe. Tyrants can't have actual crushing claws, so no possibility of miss-understanding them, they look really cool, not as flimsy as say broodloard arms. And they are claws at least... so close.

You can also use fleshborer hives. This is what I use and they look awesome.

Magnetizing Tyranid MCs sounds like a good idea until you try it. Ugh. It's a painful experience that ends badly like half the time.

This ^. A hundred times this.

I have a few that I magnetized the wings on. It helps a lot with transport. If you want I can post a few photos tomorrow.

I even have one that I pinned the torso/tail on so that I could swap flying Tyrant for walking Tyrant. That was a lot of work that didn't really pay off, so I didn't bother with the rest.

On your flying Tyrant you can use the Broodlord's claws as legs. I did it with my Shrikes, using Warriror rending claws as the legs, and it gives it a very bird/bat talon look that is pretty unique.

Someone upthread said that nobody know why MCR are free. This isn't true. MCR are free because they wanted Broodlords to be like the Swarmlord, with the unit costing some set amount, the weapons costing 0, and there being no upgrades. It is a streamlining thing. They just didn't care that Tyrants got them for free. They might change their mind about it later, and it is easy to fix (use a FAQ to call out MCR for Hive Tyrants as being a different cost, just like they do with several other weapons), but there is some logic to it.

Ultimate nitpick incoming but it's MRC (monstrous rending claws) not MCR.

Battlefoam is the way to transport Tyranids. Getting a cutout for your Flyrants specifically is the way to do it.

I prefer to use the Broodlord's, because most people have 1-2 extra and will give up the model for cheap.

I've also used claws from non-GW miniatures, there are ton of alien clawed things out there.

Do you have any pictures? I have been doing something similar on to hold the arms on my swarmlord in the correct pose and was thinking of doing the same for the wings but wasn't sure how it'd work.

If you could post pictures, that would be great - didn't think about using the feet slot for anything but can see how it would look really unique.

On another note, what did you use for your shrike wings? I might post another thread asking about it as well.
