Hey Dakka,

I've started painting some necrons with a ceramic look, my problem isn't the armour which is grey up to off white, the joints, weapons and some other parts will be painted black, but the issue I'm having is the eye and Gauss weapon "Glow" colour.
Here's where I'm at with them so far:

I want the glow colour to stand out. Initially I'd planned to use a fairly bright green something like VGA Scorpion green (along with a more bone / rusted look to the armour), but since I switched from white/bone to ceramic white/grey I don't think it'd stand out enough due to how bright the main armour is. Now I could paint the heads, weapons ,and everything else that directly comes into contact with the bright light green, black giving a hard break, But i'm unsure that would work in every circumstance.

The colours that I've used so far are fairly neutral VGA: Grey Primer, light grey with a zenithal highlight of VMC off white. I could still use a bit of rust on the joints for contrast.

Should I go for cooler shades and build up to warm highlights or visa-versa? swap out green for, maybe, blue or purple?

I have no idea what I'm doing.

Blue glow could work nice, an easy way to do it for small parts like eyes is paint them white then glaze with guilliman blue

Well its kind of a cool neutral AF grey white almost any color would work.

id say go for something with heat and make your bases cool.

so a bluish grey base and then a warm glow color like red orange or yellow. or a lime green.

or the alternative way around.

if you plan on washing them warm like with brown though then go with a cool glow like blues or turquoise.

imho.

also if you want to go really crazy with the glow try those florescent paints from various providers like vallejo.

Thanks Desubot, well the bases will be mostly warmer colours. I'll see if I can mix up a cool green etc. and experiment on a scarab or two.

I think the spine and gun would look cool in a very dark bronze (think old school tin bitz), with perhaps a purple glow on the weapons. Because...why not.
