Say for instance I wanted to run the Fyreslayer Kinbad battalion. Can I take one in an Order army, or must I got pure Fyreslayer?

RAW you must use fyreslayer allegiance, but battalion allegiance never been enforced like that even at official GW events--I doubt most players even realize the RAW. It's not the only place where RAI is routinely used instead of RAW without even a house rule mentioning it. In short, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for that (also, apologies for making the initial post in the wrong sub-forum).

So how has it been played at tournaments? Would I, in this example, declare my army as Order Allegiance, and then get an extra Order Artifact for taking a battalion?

Yup. Basically the units in the battalion have been used to determine the battalion's allegiance overall. So for example a Slaves to Darkness battalion composed of solely Nurgle units is considered a Nurgle battalion.

By that logic, can't a Nurgle Battalion take one of the Nurgle Artifacts, even if the rest of the army-list is mixed Chaos Allegiance?

No, because artifacts are granted by army wide allegiance. When you declare your army allegiance you also declare what artifacts/traits/etc you have access to.

I run into this question ALOT because I run an Everchosen battlion (plaguetouched warband) with my nurgle army.

"If a battalion has an allegiance, it's units can be included in an army that has that allegiance even if they do not have that keyword on their warscroll." This is useful for a lot of order batallions that have mixed armied. Like the gnarlroot sylvaneth battlion that allows for an ORDER WIZARD.

A battalion can still be part of ANY allegiance that ALL it's units have on their warscrolls.

....

Number two says you can.....These two rules are in the maggotkin book though. And every other new battletome EXCEPT death for some reason!!!!

You know I never noticed that addition; it's new starting with the battletomes this year as the older ones don't have it. I stand corrected.

As for Nagash, I strongly suspect that battletome was made much earlier then delayed to come out alongside Malign Portents. There are several places where the design seems dated, the Path to Glory charts in particular follow the style used before the supplement was released, which was last year.

I bet you are right because Maggotkin, Daughters and Deepkin all have the same wording. I assumed it was because of the quasi-grand alliance death -ish that LoN bring to the table. I assumed they spotted some nasty warscroll batallion mixing abuse that could ahve gone on with that rule in place. but your reasoning seems more normal and requires no tinfoil hat!
