I'm putting together a unit of striking scorpions for my Craftworld army and I'm not sure what weapons to choose for the exarch.

With the way the model comes I can either build it with a scorpion claw or a biting blade. I like the look of the biting blade more but from the stats from what I can see the claw is better in every way.

Is there something I'm missing or is there really no reason to take the biting blade?

Nope, you're not missing anything. The eldar codex has a few good choices but internal valance is a total joke.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Well the price is cheaper and biting blade has more useful damage value but yeh claw is likely superior choise anyway

The way I read the codex, the claw is an option for replacing the pistol, but the blade is an option for replacing the chainsword. They don't compete with each other, so it's not an either/or situation, you're allowed to take both (or either, or neither).

But I see you also use the phrase "the way the model comes." I don't own the kit, so I can't say whether they screwed this up and created a disconnect between the rules and the model (e.g., by making both the claw and blade left-handed only or something like that). By the rules though, you don't have to choose one or the other.

Well yeah but who pays points for both?-) Especially as you don't even gain extra attacks. It's waste of points generally to take biting blade and even more to take both. The times you would want to take the more reliable D of blade over S and AP bonus claw offers is pretty slim.

Yep, you're entirely right. I haven't had enough coffee yet I suppose, and I was pointing out a technical fact without fully considering the practical implications, as I am occasionally prone to do.
