On the weekend I had a 2 v 2 battle of Saga and it seemed to work well.

Each team had 1 Battleboard and two 4 point warbands.

The turn sequence was Player A from Team 1 would roll their Saga Dice and have their turn, then Player C from Team 2 would roll their Saga Dice and have their turn.
Then Player B from Team 1 would roll their Saga dice (being able to keep and use any Saga Dice still on their Team's Battleboard) and have their turn, followed by Player D from Team 2.

You could only activate your own units.

We played on a standard Saga table, so our side (using Anglo-Danes) was a bit crowded, but our opponent (using Jomsvikings) had plenty of space.

Team 1: Jomsvikings
Player A
1 Warlord
8 Hearthguard
8 Warriors with Dane Axes
8 Warriors

Player B
1 Warlord with Dane Axe
4 Hearthguard with Dane Axes
8 Warriors
8 Warriors
8 Warriors

Team 2: Anglo-Danes
Player C
1 Warlord with Dane Axe
8 Hearthguard with Dane Axes
8 Warriors
12 Levies

Player D
1 Warlord with Dane Axe
8 Hearthguard
8 Warriors
12 Levies

I was player D, and I mostly sat back looking for pieces to clean up. My ally with his Elite Dane Axe Hearthguard went on an assassin run for Players A's Warlord, which managed to kill all but 1 of Player A's Heathguard and left Warlord A on 3 Fatigue. Player B loaded the Battleboard for Player A's counter attack.
The counter attack left player C with only 3 levies and his Warlord. Player C managed to finish off Player A's Hearthguard and Warlord leaving Player A with 8 Dane Axe Warriors.
Player B then tried to soften up my Hearthguard with his, killed 2 of mine but I killed 3 of his. On my turn I finished of the last of team 1's Warlords then added fatigue to Player A's Warrior unit ao that they could not finish off my allies Warlord.

Team 1 then conceded.

The game took just under 2 and a half hours and consisted of 4 turns each, that was with 1 adult and 1 child (aged 8 and 10) on each team.
We chose to run with 2 battleboards to simplify things for the children. but the game felt like a team effort largely due to the shared battleboad. I don't think this cooperative feeling can be replicated by having 2v2 with 4 separate battleboards.

I have not tried 2v2 with separate battleboards so maybe it works just as well?
