Archaeologist Ticia Verveer wrote:A Roman throwing tower found at Vettweiß-Froitz-heim in Germany. The sides have been worked open, so that the players could see the dice rolling. Invented to prevent cheating. Text on the back reads: utere felix vivas ('use it and live as a lucky man').

4th century

On the front it says Pictos victos hostis deleta ludite securi ('The Picts have been defeated, the enemy destroyed, play carefree').

The text refers to a Roman victory over the Picts in Scotland, north of Roman Britannia.

I was totally expecting a Roman-themed dice tower by some contemporary manufacturer. Never imagined it would be a real ... Roman dice tower. Interesting. Thanks for posting this.

Ok that is officially badass. Will we find little figurines and ancient texts declaiming that Brutus beith a rules lawyer?

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

That dice tower is in remarkably good condition. That is awesome, given how old it is. The restoration team that worked on it did a really good job no doubt.

Also, this was one super fancy dice tower. It even had bells that would ring as the dice passed through it.

That's cool.

2000 years old and dice games never change.

Ok, we have to make those.

Other dice towers are no longer good enough.

Without inspirational Latin slogans and silver bells, other dice towers now just seem so bland.
