I'd like someone to fill me in on the possible existence of a 5th Chaos God in 40K: Malice?

My Harlequins have a black and white colour scheme and I'm thinking about getting a second army to ally/pair them thematically with... and this sounded promising.

There used to be a god of chaos called Malal, who gw didn't own the IP to. The contributing artist who did moved on and took Malal with him. GW tried to rebrand to Malice, but stopped referring to him as a god pretty quickly. Sons of Malice are just a nod to that. Many people still discuss Malice and Malal as though they were still a part of the background, but he's been dropped from the canon.

Malal is still kind of kicking about until they retcon it right?

Mind you they have pretty much abandoned undivided as a concept for quite some time now haven’t they.

Yeah the Sons of Malice chaos marines are the only acknowledgement I've seen in a long time (not that I've read close to everything.) I think he'd fall into the nameless mass of "minor chaos gods" that are still referred to.

He is/was sort of the embodiment of that aspect of Chaos that opposes everything, even itself. The self-defeating or self-devouring nature of selfishness and hatred.

The name actually means something like 'regret' or 'guilty conscience' in Urdu and several other Indo-Aryan languages.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

The Dreadaxe (Kaleb Daark's weapon) was a Daemon weapon option for 3.5 CSMs. Incidentally in the same book the Sons of Malice made their first appearance. It is also still in miniature form on the Chaos Knights kit. Plus the Games Day 2002(?) figure.

ATM he is just a little nod like Ans'l, Mo'rcck and Phraz-Etar (see, they're not nameless )

The Sons of Malice feature in the Space Marines Omnibus, which is still available for sale.

In fact they have their own story.

Can't get much more 'current' than that!

He doesn't exist.

The 1d4chan page for Malal explains it all. He's basically the Chaos God of Atheism.

Oh I'm familiar with the names of the nameless ones, I can remember when Malal was canon (in fantasy at least.) I was referring to the canon now, as far as any official publications go, there are only four named chaos gods. Although the way that they are exploring the margins of the universe, that might not be true for long.

Malice is the Chaos god of Hipsters. If all the other gods are too mainstream for you, you follow malice cause no one else knows about him yet but he’s pretty cool.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

The best reason to run a Malal themed army now is the Chaos Space Marines Renegade Legion trait. Advance and charge, great on bikers and daemon princes and jump lords! And the black and white quartered color scheme looks friggin cool.

For AoS a Slaves to Darkness army works well and will work even better when GHB2 comes out.
