Whats a safe way to get started with Skaven. I know nothing about AoS and haven't even looked at the game since it was Fantasy around 5th edition. All ideas and thoughts welcome. I've always liked the idea of Skryre and Eshin, but I also loved the ideas of them repping all 4 chaos gods of some sort, so I'm not against collecting them all.

With Aos2.0 coming out very shortly things may change significantly.

Hard to beat the generic hoard from isle of blood or whatever its new kit is called.

otherwise if you are specifically going for skryre then its hard to beat stormfiends.

Eshin is going to be hard since their kits suuuuuuuuuck.

you could go ham on conversions using blood bowl dudes and clan rat kits.

What's a good safe kit to start with. Just something to get started building and painting? The getting started kit with the plague monks looks good with a lot of plastic for $85. I'll look for the Isle of Blood. I had the skaven half at one time.

The only recommendation I can make is to read the Faction Focus: Skaven article on Warhammer Community.

cannot correlate their innate inferiority with their inevitable
defeat. It would seem that stupidity is as eternal as war.'

The more modern, repackaged version of Isle of Blood is called Spire of Dawn - same exact contents. I agree it's the best, especially for someone like me who had no interest in nurgle rats. If chaos is what tickles your fancy though, then yes the Start Collecting Pestilens is pretty much perfect.

Welp, Spire and Isle seem to be out of the question. Can't find one for sale on googling, ebay, or amazon. Some individuals on ebay but the prices are extremely high.

Beware getting start collecting pestilence as a lot of their abilities can effect anything that's not Nurgle e.g. Regular Skaven. Pure Pestilens is also quite fragile , you're battleline monks have no save.

Having said that the kits in start collecting are dual build.... so buy one and make a Screaming Bell, and a Warpfire Cannon, and sell the spare plague priest and monks.

The biggest problem Skaven has is battleline. Minimum unit clanrats will die fast as they run away. At £20 per 20 you really need 3 blocks of 40 .....

If you go Skyre then you can have stormfiends, and 3 boxes of them will give you 900 points and you can make units of 3 identical weapons to fit a role. The problem then is 2 of the weapon team types are only in IOB/Spire, jezzails are stupid priced and a lot of stuff is gw direct only unless you go second hand.

Skaven are really a race where if you don't mind doing some repairs and rebasing etc you can pick them up cheap second hand , I've got 5000 points worth of Skaven and about 8 units / characters are new, rest is all used.
