Wouldn’t it be amazing if there was an all universe war game. UNSC Spartans vs 40k Astartes. USCM marines vs Imperial Guard. Xenomorphs vs tyranids. Starship troopers and bugs. Would be pretty awesome to be able to fight any army against any army. Could maybe have fans come up with codexes and play test and use models from other lines. Have a crowd made compendium of rules that we all vote on

Can there be a vote first on which ruleset to use?

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

Sure why not. I just wanna see all those factions cross over.

This would never work because the 40k fans would refuse to make the space marines worse in order for them to be balanced.

It would work for people who wanted a crossover game. The die hards don’t need to play. It’s really not a stretch to have Spartans balanced against space marines. Or colonial marines about as on par as imperial guard shock Tripp’s or something. It’s just including more models and some slight changes in weapons and armor for them

Sci find troops and armies have been a staple for a very long time.

I'd argue Colonial Marines ARE Cadians.

Many crossovers could be done. SW Stormtroopers as Tau or storm guard.

Then a Culture Mountain class warship appears and blows up your sun...

Fixed that for you.

OTOH, the Culture faction might be the cheapest faction to buy model-wise in the history of wargaming. One model should be sufficient for any size of game.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I'd argue that it wouldn't be that interesting, personally. A universe or IP isn't always fantastic or interesting because of how large or expansive it is - but often because of its limitations. The story/fluff/lore behind something is more important to me than being able to cross-polinate anything in the genre.

For instance, I love Robotech - probably my favourite IP. I have zero interest in seeing a crossover game involving Robotech races and armies fight other random science fiction worlds and IPs.

On the rare occasion that two IPs share a similar aesthetic, perhaps, but that's really not that appealing to me. Would make for a better Reddit argument/discussion than an actual game.

This is kind of like how you can play WarMachine vs Hordes.

Also, although I never played it myself, apparently the was a Starship Troopers game that shared basic game mechanics with two other games ( a modern combat game, and a knights of the round table style game). Technically speaking there was no real problem playing Arachnids vs US special forces, Iraqi Republican Guard vs archers and Pike men, or even cavalry vs mech suits.

Bit like a game with Q.

And of course the Culture are by no means the most powerful force n their own universe (or galaxy)

Depending on the period - a Special Circumstances Agent could be quite interesting. They do have fire fights with similarly armed opponents but they would be rather formidable for many universes.

I ran a number of skirmish games with for instance Imperial Inquisitorial team vs Predators vs Aliens - that one came down to the last Imperial player (either the Inquisitor herself or a Marine I forget which) vs the Alien Queen - very cool.

I AM A MARINE PLAYER

"Unimaginably ancient xenos artefact somewhere on the planet, hive fleet poised above our heads, hidden 'stealer broods making an early start....and now a bloody Chaos cult crawling out of the woodwork just in case we were bored. Welcome to my world, Ciaphas."
Inquisitor Amberley Vail, Ordo Xenos

"I will admit that some Primachs like Russ or Horus could have a chance against an unarmed 12 year old novice but, a full Battle Sister??!! One to one? In close combat? Perhaps three Primarchs fighting together... but just one Primarch?" da001

One of those silver helium-filled balloons should adequately represent a System-class GSV IN Battlefleet Gothic, or a Superlifter or large Module in 40k.

It's Turn 33 and the Redshirts and Stormtroopers still lack their first kill...

I think it'd be great to get some cross-universe fights going - Aliens vs. 'Nids vs. Bugs, for one.

I believe there is a game system called Starfall being discussed in the Misc. Game forum that can do most of these universes.

It never ends well

Yep, there are tons of games set up with the express purpose of "import your favourite IP here". Most are set towards a specific genre (for example, I'm a fan of 7TV which deals with classic British TV series from the 60s, 70s and 80s) so just find a sci-fi one you like and away you go.

Truly this is the unstoppable force vs. immovable object question for our generation. The stormtrooper always misses, the redshirt always dies. PARADOX.

The game you want is called Tomorrows War, and lets you pit "movie marines" against unlimited swarms, or redshirts, or even the USMC!
