I play Imperial Knights in 40k, so I am looking for an army in AoS that plays the opposite style, hordes. The two armies that have models that appeal to me the most are Deathrattle(and the new ghost guys from the AoS2 starter box) or seraphon. I want to focus on a couple elite generals and warriors with a ton of hordes. What do you suggest I pick up to start either of these armies, for when I finally pick between the two?

If you want to compete for championship gold... and want hordes... skeletons are the (lol) no-brainer.

Skeletons in hordes get massive boosts and can be riased back.

Seraphon's "hordes" would be skinks or maybe saurus but they would be inferior to skeletons in pretty much every way until the skeletons are brought below 20 models.

Ghost guys (Nighthaunt) will be rather average-elite costed so not much of a horde when using Battleline (troops) units.

If You're looking for hordes :
Deathrattle - skeleton warriors (as mentioned)
Death - Zombies
Skavens - slaves, other skaven infantry
Maybe Seraphons and Daemons
Grots (Goblins)

death skellys is realy powerfull in max number units and they have solid heros to buff them further and they can revive, so it realy is a no brainer.
you prolly need about 120-160 skelly warriors as a core for your army so you have alot of painting ahead of you.

Buy up moonclan armies cheap now before the battletome! They will/are a blast to play and nobody can put down more models on the table!!

This doesn't remotely seem true given the addition of the Chainrasp Hordes.

I mean, it's right there in the name!

The starter set comes with 20 of them as well.

Yeah but You don't get additional bonuses for Chainrasp Horde above 20 and 30 models like other horde Battlelines does. They have Fly, Bravery 10, 2 attacks and Etheral rule. They won't be cheap pointswise.
Also, their weapon's range is 1". No option for spears or other 2" weapons, so fielding them in units more than 20 models seems (at the moment) as not optimal. Better to use 2x 20 models units of those rather than 1x40, even with points discount for max model units.

must agree, whitout any rank bonuses for 30, the chainrasp is a pointless horde battleline unit for an elitearmy.

they are prolly only usefull to bubblewrap the NH heroes.

Will the rules for deathrattle be changing a lot going into AoS2. I heard somewhere that the battletomes are still useable in the new version. I was thinking of picking up the soul wars starter set, I want to do stormcast eventually. Would a mixed army of skeletons and nighthaunts be viable? I like the big vampires on dragons and stuff too.

Skeletons work best en masse when supported with heroes from their battletome. While nighthaunt is under nagash, they will work best as a standalone force.. as eveidenced by being a separate battletome. I would go Skellies (death rattle) OR nighthaunt.

Death, daughters, nurgle, and deepkin battletomes were all written with the new edition rules in mind so they wont be chnaging basically at all. MAYBE some points adjustments.. but I wouldnt expect ANY big changes to how death functions.... except for the buffs to magic we have already seen, and more functionality from the endless legions command ability which is poised to be kind of ridiculously good.

You don't actually know that you don't get those bonuses. These are the rules from the starter sets.

At least some point costs changes are definitely coming to Death. One of the first quotes re: Death we had from GW was that Nagash was seeing a big points decrease so lists he is in could have more flexibility (as he Battalion essentially auto-builds your list with minimal points left to play with)

So, Im thinking one of each wight king, nagash, 12 boxes of skeletons, 20 black knights, and a zombie dragon or morghast harbingers.
