So here are a couple of fixes that I have in mind to make the Knight Lance work a little better.

1. Two Armiger Class Knights in one Lord of War slot count as one Questoris or Dominus class Knight for the purposes of meeting the prerequisites for gaining Command Points.
2. If the Knight Lance contains three Questoris, Dominus, or units of two Armigers, the Command Benefits change to +6 Command Points.
3. If the Knight Lance contains a Dominus class Knight, it gains an additional +1 Command Point. This benefit can only be gained once.

What are your thoughts?

So, that would make my current Knight detachment give 7CP, giving my 2000 point army 20CP

I understand the need for more CP for a pure Knights list, but, you also need to consider the “soup” aspect. Soup isn’t going away anytime soon, so the ability to add in a couple of Guard Battalions must be accounted for.

Essentially, the easiest way to solve the current lack of CP for Knights and certain “pure” armies is to do the following –

Take your option 1. No-one anywhere on the face of the planet, outside of GWs rule writers, know why Armigers no longer give CP. Having a starting unit of 2 is a nice restriction, as it essentially comes to the same cost of a basic Gallant.

Additionally, add the following to the “battleforged” section in the rule book –

“If your army is drawn completely from the same army faction and every unit shares the same <subfaction> keyword (i.e Ultramarines), the CP bonus awarded for being battleforged is doubled to +6CP.”

Perhaps something as simple as the Knight Lance granting 3 CP if it is in a Soup list, 6 CP if it is in an army that contains only Knights.

One caveat I would add to the Armigers is that they can only fill *one* slot for the Knight Lance of the three required.

I don’t like any of these.
Just make a super heavy detachment require a single knight in order to grant CP.
Worst min max build you can build is 3 superheavy detachments of 3 knights (1 of which needs to be a gallant), 3 units of Warglaives consisting of 1 model and 3 units of hellugers consisting of 1 model. And you gain 12cp. (No dominus class knights cause you can’t fit them under 2k in this list)
<- this list is not competitive you are still better off with either an IG battalion with a single imperial knight or an ad mech battalion with a single mechanicus knight.
There is absolutely no point to the lance rule as written. The only list I can see Gw was trying to prevent is a single knight preceptor with helliger spam and a super heavy detachment of warglaives. Just to flood the tables with cheap tough units. I honestly don’t know what is going through Gw head right now. 8th edition started with the removal of useless restrictions and using points as a means to balance armies. Where every weapon can hurt every unit and it doesn’t matter if it’s a superheavy or an infantry model. And if something was overpowered all it needed was a points adjustment. So I have no clue why they are reverting back to the 7th edition style of needless complicated restrictions on list buildings. This is what everyone hated in the first place.
