Twisting Tzeentch Horror

So I have tried to take the plunge into sigmar a couple times, first when it came out I bought the stormcast side of the starter and other little stormcast things. I played a few games but found the mechanics of them too one-dimensional (i.e walk forward and hit stuff in combat)

Recently-ish I bought the disciples of tzeentch big box to go with my thousand sons, and after playing them a few times I very much dislike them. I disliked the skyfires I built, I disliked how the horde of tazzangors worked and I disliked how little magic I had.

After concluding not wanting to take tzeentch any further, I came back to the sigmarines with news of the new edition. I am on the fence about the new stormcast models but I think I would very much enjoy painting them (I love painting cloth).

I need to spend as little as possible- I have a very tight budget that I can't allow to stretch too far. So I was thinking: new box set half + old models would make a sizeable force. But would they be fun? And what units could I ally/also take?

I am not taking this as a competitive force, but want to be able to hold up. Obviously with the new edition things are changing up a bit(lot) so I don't know how much you know.

Thanks for any replies anyway.

-edit-

I am interested in the vanguard chamber. I love the models for the gryph chargers, I want some of (6) of them I think. What's the consensus on them then?

The nighthaunt side of the new box set seems really interesting, an army built around synergy and maximizing combos from your heroes seems fun. The stormcasts do look sick as minis and look really fun to paint. Looks like a lot of us have some hard decisions to make for the upcoming future, lol

I'm from the future. The future of space

Where you not playing the stormcast with the stuff from their battletome about being able to be deployed in the celestial realm and cast down anywhere on the table? Or the variety of ways that they can move their units around outside their normal move?

The most popular tactic though was probably to make a brick of super hard to kill liberators with a lord castellant. I now in tournaments people moved away from that to a more mixed order approach, but for non tournament games it remained a very popular core line to hold objectives and take the enemy attack while the far ranging and arriving from reserves stuff went after the enemy.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.
