Just played my first game of WOTR last night. WOW. That game system is incredible. Im shocked on how little people seem to play it. I cant wait to try a couple more matches.

Anyone here fond of the WOTR system?

play it all the time, yeah it is great and with warhammer gone it is IMO the best mass battle game out there.

We were into it balls deep when they discontinue the FAQ support, stopped making trays, etc.
Of all my GW disappointments, that was the biggest screw over in my groups memory.

That's great to see people are still playing.

In retrospective I'd say the game needed too large armies. Even for long time players having to put 32 of any metal model on the table was pretty insane. Also, GW cut the plastic boxes in half making troops also pretty expensive.

That being said, it's a good game, if I recall correctly magic was pretty unbalanced and needed houseruling to not dominate the game, but other thant that it was okay.

Great game that was killed by cost and people not wanting to spend a lot of money on the system when LOTR could be played with a fraction of the models.

That would be better off shrunk to 15mm IMO but it would be a blast.

Nothing was balanced and the core rules are not very inspired. There's no unified mechanics - everything has it's own subsystem. It's a great example of inelegant game design.

Yes we totally saw it's faults but still had a blast playing.
Just makes me nervous that the "New Gw" will mimic the GW of old, and all these specialist games they are releasing will quickly fade.
I think this investment in Middle Earth will keep us happy for along while, however.

So I was at NOVA and got to go to the ‘Future of Middle Earth’ talk with Adam Troke. It was a good time, and I can say with certainty that they’ve got big plans for Middle Earth.

I did end up asking him about War of the Ring and that is definitely in the Pipeline right now, so there will be WoTR coming at some point (he didn’t specify when, just that it was something they were planning on doing).

So there you go. I’m excited!

One of them filthy casuals...

Still have piles of War of the RIng (I stockpiled trays and stuff). Luckily you could easily make your own (and MDF folks still cut them as well).

The return of 24man boxes will really help this game as well!

don't get _excited_. They are planning on doing it IF it makes sense to spend the development time on it, and have done no development on it. a War of the Ring 2, if it ever comes, would be years and years away. Remember the Middle-earth team is like 4 people.

Have you seen the GW release schedule this year? War of the Ring could be out in 2 weeks for all we know.

I'm too sexy for a sig.

Adam Troke and Jay Clare have both been very open about the future of SBG over the past year. If WotR was in the works, why never mention anything about it? I guess it could come out in two weeks. I guess they could scrap the whole line in two weeks, too.
