Can Freeblade Imperial Knights be taken in SHADs? It says with the exception of SHADs imperial knight detachments get the following special rules: Knight lances and Household Traditions. Freeblades is an aside saying that they never get a household tradition but I don't know if its a rule in and of itself. The font is different which makes me think its not a rule. I only own one knight and don't want to run 3. I'd rather run in a SHAD next to my imperial guard but I want to be able to give the Knight relics, warlord traits and the use of IK stratagmens. Any insight into this? I want to play tournaments based on the rule that I can get all those things unlocked with a freeblade knight in a SHAD

Thanks

From what I can tell you can include a Freeblade in a Super-heavy Auxiliary, Super-Heavy and (theoretically) a Supreme Command Detachment (you'd need to come up with 3 HQs).

But in order to be a Warlord, you need to be a Character.
In order to receive a Relic, you need to be a Character.
And the only way to BE a Character as an Imperial Knight (of any kind) is to run a Super-heavy Detachment, and then you get to make one of the Knights into a Character.

That's assuming IK relics/warlord traits work "as usual".

Maybe add two Armigers to your list? That should take care of the issue.

You can also use the stratagem to become a character and get a warlord trait. Any Knight detachment opens up stratagems.

OH, I didn't know that, that's awesome - thanks for pointing that out! And I'm doubly glad since I also have just a single knight and I wasn't really looking forward to grabbing armigers

I made some calculations on this.
A Gallant with the +1A WT and the 5++ in melee relic seems to quite interesting to me!

Nope. All you lose is the <Household>/<Forgeworld> affiliation (meaning that a single House Terryn or Forgeworld Krast unit in a SHAD is impossible) and the Lance special rule (so it cannot be made a Character like normal Knights in a SHD). Everything else is fair game

Correction: you lose the household tradition, but not the house keyword.

<house> and household traditions are separate rules handled in separate pages (90 & 106)

Sorry just stumbled into this thread, since you keep the house keyword, does that mean a freeblade in a SHAD can take a specific house relics and use house specific stratagems if you spend 1 cp to make him a character, and 1 cp to get him a relic?

You can always use "subfaction" stratagems with ANY detachment that unlocks stratagems, you don't need a detachment of that subfaction.

Freeblades replace their <HOUSEHOLD> keyword with FREEBLADE, so you can't use the stratagems on them because they don't meet the keyword requirements.

Not in matched play anymore, because you can't use IMPERIUM to bind a detachment together.

No as he's freeblade which replaces house.

And another makes you character and gives relic. No need to use other to get other as well

Does this mean I can use the house Krast warlord trait and relic on a lone knight via stratagems if I don't make it a freeblade ? If I specify the house keyword to be Krast? That would be cool.

Fully Painted Armies: 2200pts Orks 1000pts Space Marines 1200pts Tau 2500pts Blood Angels 3500pts Imperial Guard/Renegades and 1700pts Daemons 450pts Imperial Knights

Yes. A lone SHAD of any given household cam be given that household's relic or warlord trait.

The only thing that they will lose is the Household Tradition, bonus CPs, and free character upgrade

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Remember that to be given either, you need to use the Stratagem to turn that Knight into a Character since they do not gain that for free in a SHAD.
