So I am looking at running a Questoris Imperialis detachment of Knights alongside a small Battalion of allies. Here is the base Knights detachment. I am running Mortan because I like their Strategem and their Tradition.

And here are my allies I am looking at running. One is a Stygies VIII Battalion of Skitatii. Yes, I know I would benefit more from running Questor Mechanicus Knight Detachment, but a Valiant with Traitor's Pyre is better than one without. Plus I like the Imperialis strategems. The other Battalion is a Battalion of Crimson Fists Space Marines. I suppose I could maybe run some Blood Angels with Captain Slam too (though I think it goes over on points, barely).

++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Imperium - Adeptus Mechanicus) [26 PL, 481pts] ++

It seems to me that running AdMech with Questor Imperialis is giving up synergy (i.e. repairs).

If your knights are questoris mechanicus do they get access to canticles?

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

Yes, it is 1 CP to get a canticle that is chosen/randomly rolled to a Mechanicus knight. Have to make sure a dominus or engiseer is within 6" of a knight to do it. Along with gaining the repairs as well

I am leaning more toward the Space Marines right now anyway. I know I would give up a ton of synergy with Imperialis for Ad Mech, but I really have no desire to run more red models (Blood Angels are my second largest army). That and Traitor's Pyre is Imperialis exclusive. I do have a little buyer's remorse with the Valiant since the Mortan Warlord Trait and Strategem seem geared more toward a Castellan.

Nope, common mistake. Knights of the Cog gives one Knight access to the Canticles rule. The Cantciles rule however says it only works if the whole deatchment has the rule. So if your in a Lance, it doesnt work.

The more I am thinking about it, I might run the following for the Knights instead:

++ Super-Heavy Detachment +3CP (Imperium - Imperial Knights) [77 PL, 1507pts] ++

+ No Force Org Slot +

Exalted Court: Exalted Court: 1 Extra Warlord Trait (-1CP)

Heirlooms of the Household: Heirlooms of the Household: 1 Extra Heirloom (-1CP)

Household Choice
. Questor Imperialis: House Mortan

+ Lord of War +

Armiger Warglaives [9 PL, 177pts]
. Armiger Warglaive: Meltagun

Knight Crusader [25 PL, 502pts]: Heavy stubber, Heirloom: Sanctuary, Stormspear rocket pod, Thermal cannon
. Avenger Gatling Cannon w/ Heavy Flamer: Avenger gatling cannon, Heavy flamer
. Character
. . Warlord: Warlord Trait (Mortan): Legacy of the Black Pall

Knight Gallant [20 PL, 367pts]: Meltagun, Reaper chainsword, Thunderstrike gauntlet
. Character
. . Exalted Court Member: Warlord Trait: Landstrider

Knight Warden [23 PL, 461pts]: Character, Heavy stubber, Heirloom: The Paragon Gauntlet, Stormspear rocket pod, Thunderstrike gauntlet
. Avenger Gatling Cannon w/ Heavy Flamer: Avenger gatling cannon, Heavy flamer

++ Total: [77 PL, 1507pts] ++

The addition of the Gallant fits Mortan better, and with Landstrider and Full Tilt, he should be able to get a decent charge off. The Crusader with Sanctuary and Legacy of the Black Pall is going to be a pretty survivable Warlord, and a great option to drop the Slayer of Shadows and let a rip on stuff that is hard to hit. The Warglaive will be able to move alongside the Gallant well, too bad it won't be able to Full Tilt on the same turn. The Warden will do well in the midfield, I think.

This pretty much seals me with the Space Marines though. It does give me enough points to run my Blood Angels Battalion with Captain Slam, so there is that.

I like the second list better, then again, Im biased against Dominus classes. Especially the Valiant.

Yeah, the Valiant needs a bit of an overhaul. Without the ability to move significantly quicker, it is just wasted points for an entire turn. It needs at least a 15% reduction in points.

I am going with my second list for the time being. I am not sure what to do with my extra points though.

So what seems more useful, a Meltagun on the Armiger or an Ironstorm Missile Pod on the Gallant. Since the Gallant is going to be advancing first turn to set up a charge, it seems like the Ironstorm will be a waste. The Armiger will be advancing too, so the Meltagun will be more useful than a Heavy Stubber(especially since he will be able to get close enough to fire it due to running alongside the Gallant). So then what do I do with my remaining 13 points?!

Also, which is better for the Crusader, the Legacy of the Black Pall (-1 to hit from enemies outside 18") or Ion Bulwark (4++ Invulnerable Save)?

So I just realized that my Custodes Jetbike Captain Supreme Command Detachment is also 480 pts, which is just perfect for the 1520 pts of Knights. I also figured out how to get my points to 1520 by taking out a Warglaive and putting in a Helverin, so here is what I am looking at doing.

++ Super-Heavy Detachment +3CP (Imperium - Imperial Knights) [77 PL, 1520pts] ++

+ No Force Org Slot +

Exalted Court: Exalted Court: 1 Extra Warlord Trait (-1CP)

Heirlooms of the Household: Heirlooms of the Household: 1 Extra Heirloom (-1CP)

Household Choice
. Questor Imperialis: House Mortan

+ Lord of War +

Armiger Helverins [9 PL, 174pts]
. Armiger Helverin: Heavy stubber

Knight Crusader [25 PL, 502pts]: Heavy stubber, Stormspear rocket pod, Thermal cannon
. Avenger Gatling Cannon w/ Heavy Flamer: Avenger gatling cannon, Heavy flamer
. Character
. . Warlord: Warlord Trait (Mortan): Legacy of the Black Pall

Knight Gallant [20 PL, 383pts]: Heirloom: Sanctuary, Ironstorm missile pod, Meltagun, Reaper chainsword, Thunderstrike gauntlet
. Character
. . Exalted Court Member: Warlord Trait: Landstrider

Knight Warden [23 PL, 461pts]: Character, Heavy stubber, Heirloom: The Paragon Gauntlet, Stormspear rocket pod, Thunderstrike gauntlet
. Avenger Gatling Cannon w/ Heavy Flamer: Avenger gatling cannon, Heavy flamer

++ Total: [77 PL, 1520pts] ++

++ Supreme Command Detachment +1CP (Imperium - Adeptus Custodes) [27 PL, 480pts] ++

+ HQ +

Shield-Captain on Dawneagle Jetbike [9 PL, 160pts]: Hurricane Bolter

Shield-Captain on Dawneagle Jetbike [9 PL, 160pts]: Hurricane Bolter

Shield-Captain on Dawneagle Jetbike [9 PL, 160pts]: Hurricane Bolter

++ Total: [27 PL, 480pts] ++

I think it would provide some much better mobility. The loss of 4 CP is what gets me.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Be it that I have 14 CP starting with my SM Battalion, I am actually thinking of adding Blessed by the Sancristans to my Warden's Avenger Gatling Cannon. It makes it chew through just about anything.
