My friend and I are playing a 10k Apocalypse game to cap off our campaign against eachother, and we're trying to figure out how to send out what and when.

We'll be playing the long way on a 8x4 board (biggest surface we got that isnt the floor), and we figure dit would be good to start at 5k, and then do one of three things.

1. Deploy the other 5k on turn 3 or 4
2. Deploy 2k, 2k and 1k over a series of turns
3. Allow us to deploy as we want each turn, even going so far as to just dump the other 5k on the very next turn.

Which is the best option ,or is there a better option than all three?

To save you all lots of time, set a 20 minute timer for deployment (for each side), and keep anything that isn’t on the board by that time in reserve.

Do the same for every time you bring in reserves, but with a 10/15 minute timer instead.

Definitely option 2.

The reasons I like it are.....you have a vague idea when or what forces are near for reinforcements.....Most commanders should be getting updates on the incoming.

If you suffer a catastrophic loss....then that prevents the opponent from steamrolling you til you get more.

The game moves way faaaaaster.

I would suggest starting off with like 1 or 2k and then work your way up each round. Once we did a random force to arrive. So we all had a couple 1k. a couple 1.5k and couple 2k forces and you did not know which if any would show ....later all of them would arrive by turn 8....we normally play about 10 turns a day in Appoc games when you do it that way.

Tactics? In apocalypse?

Deploy the shooty thing at the back, the chaff at the front, and deepstrike the stabby thing. Done.

But most importantly, have fun. Apocalypse isn’t about winning - it’s about having memorable battles.

Also, option 1.

If youre playing with a 8x4 board, I'll suggest hammer and anvil deployment type, to get bigger zones. Otherwise 10x4 board should be optimal.

We just deploy everything and go all weapons hot

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

Decide who is going first, let that guy put out 5000 points. The player going second puts out 7500. Turn 3 bring whatever you want on both sides. It’ll help mitigate the massive advantage of going first. If you haven’t played much Apocalypse be aware that the amount of killing that can go on in the first turn is insane. Going first is a huge advantage because you can eliminate so much before it can move or fire. This way the smaller army can get some licks in and move, but will be at a disadvantage turn 2. If you throw everything out at the start, whoever goes first will probably win.

Option 2 worked for us and made game less alpha strike. The bigger the game the more igougo hurts. One side could be crippled on t1 and rest is just mob up.

Just allow stuff move normally rather than 8th ed stupid set within 6" style reserve rule

And for record our game played like this side i was won despite going second and me having one of least ideal apoc armies with stompa leading the way and rest not much better. I was nearly wiped out barring bik mek that hid allgame
