A minimum bullgryn squad kitted out for the most attacks and durability, with an astropath (or other psyker), and a ministorum priest, perhaps a commissar or lord commissar for the leadership tests.

Is one or two of these worth it for the points in a two thousand point army?

If the truth can destroy it, then it deserves to be destroyed.

My mate does thisnwith great effect. Saw him take out more than double its points a few times. And never knock the Las on the valk. Sometimes you get lucky.

It depends. Did your opponent bring an expensive death start unit that can be locked out of the alpha strike by a turn-1 charge and not enough screening units to protect it? If so, it might be worth it. You're spending a ton of points on your one-shot attack, but the disruption to a large part of your opponent's army (plus whatever they dedicate to killing the ogryns) may be worth it. If not, your one-shot weapon isn't worth it. Ogryns just don't hit all that hard, their main advantage is their durability and you don't need durability to deliver an attack directly into combat from across the table. So if you aren't locking anything meaningful out of the fight then you aren't gaining enough to justify the point cost.

Three other points:

1) For locking stuff in combat you're better off taking multiple cheap units. Take a couple of plasma command squads and cheap characters, do some damage with the plasma, and then charge 2-3 different units to lock them all in combat.

2) The priest is best used with hordes, not elites. Maximizing the number of attacks you can throw requires maximizing your model count. On a minimum squad of bullgryns (3 models) you get +3 attacks, equal to the number of attacks you get by adding another model to the unit. On a 10-model infantry squad you get +10 attacks.

3) The commissar is an utter waste of points and transport space. You have LD 8 already, and you have a 3-model unit. To roll higher than LD 8 you have to lose at least three models, at which point your entire unit is dead already and does not roll.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

That would be spectacularly hilarious. I have a friend who has both, I'm not sure he's thought of that option.

I love doing this. I run two valks with rocket pods. I never have luck with their shooting so I give them the volume of fire option. I run 4 bulls in each Valk, and I also take Celestine.

The bulls near Celestine will have a 2+, 4++ with her aura. It's a really fun twist on guard and Celestine can keep up with the Valks turn one.

I don't know about it being worth the points, but it's an absolute blast to play. I base my more casual armies around this tactic.

I prefer using 4 bulls over the priest or characters because I feel you get similar results but with more durability.

They can flop sometimes in combat, but they force your opponent to play outside their comfort zone starting turn 1.

100% bring Celestine along somehow. 2+/4++ is too good to pass up. Even using an Aux detachment is worth it.
