So, I'm aware that the fluff has been pushed forward a bit, by about 100 standard Terran years. And that there has been/is going to be a bunch of a new fluff surrounding the Imperium of Man and perhaps all the other xenos races too. I'm hoping I can get some recommendations for books that will help me catch up with all this new fluff taking place after The Fall of Cadia. Obviously, any novels about Guilliman and his journey from Ultramar to Terra, and then the Indomitus Crusade would be pretty high on my "To Read" list. Thanks.

I will forever remain humble because I know I could have less.
I will always be grateful because I remember I've had less.

Dark imperium stands out as the most important, it’s about the end of the indomitus crusade and what follows. It gets into Guillimans mind.

Watchers of the Throne: The Emperor's Legion Is also set during this time and will give you an idea of what happened on Terra.

The novel Devastation of Baal is also set during the creation of the great rift, it’s focused on the Blood Angels and the rift is created during the book, it is an excellent novel and I really recommend it but I’d suggest you read the excellent novel Dante first as it acts as kind of a prequel.

The three gathering storm sourcebooks set the stage, they show how it all happened, but their not novels and I believe are out of print, so eBay or such would be needed. The quality is up and down but their the only source I know for an in-depth look at the creation of the great rift and Guillimans return.

In order the Gathering storm trilogy is
Fall of Cadia
Fracture of Biel-Tan
Rise of the Primarchs

Where could I find out more about the indomitus crusade though?

Dark imperium covered the end of the indomitus crusade but I’m not aware of anything covering the crusade itself other than mentions in codexes and such. For such a massive change to the lore I found the release of the Primaris curiously unsupported, I’d have expected novels, special characters campaign books and everything like that, but all we got was dark imperium so far.

That’s the big reason their release felt so flat to me, it probably happened like that because of all the codexes being released so quickly.

The Indomitus Crusade is the new War of Unification/Great Crusade. It's a black box time period when gak hit the fan as hard as possible. It's a time period left blank specifically for players to fill in their own stories of crazy events that form the backbone of many post-Gathering Storm armies.

we are getting more, A brother's confession war a short story about Primaris Marines (that was utterly forgettable TBH no new lore) War of Secrets coming out sometime this month will details Dark Angels meeting the Primaris Marines, (the summery also talks about them fighting "Trama scarred Tau" so Tau fans may wanna check that one out)
Then in september we get Blood of Iax which is a book about the characters we first saw in Brother's confession, as well as "Of honor and Iron" which promises us "New insights into the Primaris Space Marines abound, as well a look at Primarch Guilliman as he leads his great crusade to reclaim the Imperium."

my gut feeling re Primaris Marines is GW kept the info about them pretty close to their chest and not a lot of writers KNEW of them until recently. this is why the lack of novels etc. and only now are we getting our first real drop of Primaris focused novels.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I also think some of the details about the Primaris are deliberately being kept 'flexible' until GW decides what to do with non-Primaris marines. Hence somebody at GW letting slip that maybe existing marines can be upgraded, but that never being mentioned in official lore (yet).

If Primaris sell like hotcakes and sales of non-Primaris fall drastically, then GW will probably move more towards making non-Primaris marines definitively obsolete in the lore, by showing known characters like Ragnar or Dante getting upgraded to Primaris, as well as giving them new units so that all-Primaris armies become more viable. On the other hand, if traditional marines remain popular or Primaris don't sell as well as expected, GW might reveal that there is some dark flaw in the Primaris project, maybe have Cawl fall out with Guilliman and turn semi-renegade, giving them an excuse to keep Primaris as just the existing units and dependent on old-style marines to fill tactical holes.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

eaither way it looks like we're finally getting more info. the first little bit of "war of secrets" has already been intreasting in what it's revealed
