I was thinking to myself, is Death Guard a CSM <Legion> in that regard? I have a feeling it isn't but then again all the special Space Marine Chapters except for GK and LotD get to play with it.

Edit: Apart from that, a pretty solid choice I think. Only ~50 points more than a Rhino, but has DS and hits like a brick if it gets into cc

It isn't. However, the FW FAQ has an entry regarding <LEGION> for their index, to take that as far as you and your opponent are willing to go with it https://whc-cdn.games-workshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/imperial_armour_index_forces_of_chaos-1.pdf

Well its a lot more expensive than a Rhino. With its base wargear its looking at 134 points. A Rhino is usually in the ballpark of 80 after loading up on Storm / Combi Bolters or other cheap upgrades. Of course you can upgrade the storm bolters for the Chargers for some serious dakka for a few more points. The big difference is that Termite Drill is really good in assault with a great profile and a chaining mortal wounds... Whereas a Rhino can charge a squad to tie it up or soak overwatch.

At this point it seems closest to the Chaos Hellforged Dreadclaw Drop Pod, which is only a few points cheaper than the Termite. The Dreadclaw can transport a wider variety of things and is much faster once deployed, but has a generally worse loadout for ranged and melee. In any event the Termite looks pretty fun now, especially Marines who can now use it instead of the terrible Drop Pod. And I'm pretty sure forwarned Dark Reapers will still need to target the Termite and not the angry disembarking marines in rapid fire range.

Xom finds this thread hilarious!

I really wish they'd just let ad Mech use chimeras or torox, but at least they finally have a transport so they can do something other than a cawl blob in the back corner.

I did a mini Chaos writeup on it here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/4650/727523.page#10024910

Basically if take the Twin Volkite Chargers it costs twice what a basic Rhino costs but the benefits you get are top notch, IMO.

And the drill, THE DRILL, OOOOOHHHH BBAABBBYYY

Triaros or Macrocarid Exploritor would be my wishes. Such awesome looking models.

yup, I wanted a termite since they announced it, but I think I'd rather have a macrocarid. my skitarii need a way to get into the face of my opponent, as long as they can keep up w my armigers.

Still sad you can't put Primaris in it. Sigh.. At least it's another model I don't have to buy.

I love these new rules. It might be crazy expensive, but it’s just so darn cool looking and unique that I want to buy a ton of them.

All of the units in the CSM book have the <Legion> keyword. While the 1ksons and the Death Guard have that replaced with Death Guard and Thousand Sons because they don't get to pick from other Legions so yes yes they are legions.

This thing is quite good for its points.
Imagine taking a marine dreadnought with MM/fist/SB. (Yes I know it's mediocre unit.)

Then add:
-1 toughness and 2 wounds. (T8 is a very relevant increase.)
-some movement speed.
-12 transport spots
-inbuilt deep strike option
-ability to spit dudes out on arrival like a pod OR keep them safe inside.
-comparable melee considering it has more attacks but one less WS.
-the drill mortal wounds effect against big enemies.
-an extra storm bolter
-melta shots changed from 1 to d3

And after all of that it's cheaper than the dread. One could argue that the dread gets chapter tactics, but the termite can get a forge world dogma if taken with admech.

Seems pretty good.

Why do Grey Knights don't get access to them? The drill seems like it would be a nice addition to a short range army. Would help with the teleportation problems too.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

Here's the way I see it:

For 9 points more, you get a Vindicator that deepstrikes, has transport, and is pretty good at assault.

Yeah, it's not quite the same as a Vindicator, being S8 instead of S10, which is relevant, but not a dealbreaker.

OTOH, it's not like Vindicators are great.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

Lore wise don't they all just teleport everywhere? Why bother with giant drills when you can just space magic your way in?

The rules kind of a don't allow deep strike anymore. Seem strange to single out just one army to not be able use it.

Damn I'd love to model that bursting from the earth, nearly vertical. Pricey ($$$) for a transport, but really tough and well armed for a transport.

The strange thing is not all of our infantry can innately deep strike. The following can only deep strike via stratagem: Crowe, Techmarines, The brotherhood champion, Purifiers, Servitors and, Purgation Squads. Vehicles can't deep strike without the stratagem. So, for some odd reason GKs have to know ahead of time where to send the above troops so that they can meet their brethren on the proper field of combat.
