Hi there!

I'd like some clarification on how the Kauyon ability functions. Here's the text:

Until the end of the turn, you can re-roll failed hit rolls for friendly <SEPT> units within 6" of the COMMANDER, but those units cannot move for any reason.

The confusing bit about this ability is the last clause. It doesn't say they cannot HAVE moved, it just says they cannot move. Also it seems a little unclear exactly who 'those units' are, whether its all units within 6" or only units that actually make use of the re-roll.

So, what if a unit starts the turn outside of 6" of the commander, then appears within 6", in a fashion that counts as the unit having moved (but isn't itself a move) such as disembarking or even manta strike?

More broadly, are units that start within 6" when this ability is declared unable to move regardless of whether they use the re-roll?

As far as I understand, Kauyon only affects units who are within 6" of the commander at the time they use Kauyon. Moving or appearing into range afterwards doesn't benefit the unit. Same for the Ethereal Abilities.

Ah ok... My reading was that the ability gave the commander an Aura. To be honest I'm still not sure the RAW is clear, but I think I'd go with your reading as RAI simply because treating it as an aura raises so many issues!

I agree, it's not overly clear and needs an FAQ to clear it up. Ideally it would get an errata but GW are incompetent at writing rules.
