Rules in spoiler. The stratagem tells us to use the top row of the damage control chart, regardless how many wounds it has left. Lets use the DDA for example. The top row of the chart says : W8-14+ B12" BS3+ A3.
Lets say i play this stratagem on my DDA which has 2 wounds left. How many wounds does the DDA have now ? 8 ? 14 ? Something in between ? The stratagem doesnt say to ignore the wounds on the top row.

It doesn't change the number of wounds it has left, it just gets to use the top down for ws/bs/movement etc as if it has that many wounds left.

Exactly. It doesn’t change the models remaining wounds in any way, it just counts as more for determining other stats.

The stratagem says to use the top row. It doesnt say the wounds stay the same. You cant just pick some stats from the top row and ignore some, you dont have permission to do that. All stats in the top row must be used.

The bit you’re calling a “stat” isn’t. Its a lookup. You determine what stats to use based on wounds remaining, as the table tells you to. The row used in no way defines what wounds the model has left... it’s entirely the other way around.

The first column isn't a characteristic, because the W value on the profile isn't a *. It's a lookup index, nothing more. Using the stratagem doesn't change the models wounds value.

You're mistaking the index for a stat
Don't.
