Hi All,

New player coming back after 15 years away from warhammer. Recently i decided to start a Necron Army and I have a few questions for some more experienced players.
Thanks in advance

1. I have purchased a box of Immortals and wondered what is best to use either Gauss Blasters or Tesla Carbines?
2. What are best Immortals or Deathmarks?
3. What is the best weapon to use on a Triarch Stalker?
4. Finally i have 40 warriors and wondered are they better in units of 10 or 20?

1. There isn't really a 'best' option, as the weapons are balanced against each other, but taking other factors into account, Tesla has a slight edge. Gauss makes marines cry, but Tesla is better against more lightly-armoured enemies. Tesla has better synergy with 'My Will Be Done', and more shots at max distance, plus can gain some AP with the Mephrit Dynasty (though that has its drawbacks too).

2. The question isn't really Immortals vs Deathmarks, it's Immortals vs 'Deathmarks plus you have to take more troops now'. This itself makes Deathmarks less appealing since Necrons' strongest units are found outside of the troops section, and Deathmarks aren't one of those strong units. I don't really like the lack of AP on their guns, but they're okay. I'd go with Immortals, though, and save points for better things like Wraiths or Destroyers.

3. I think the Gauss cannon is still best, because it has the longest range, so you can fire first turn and not have to move and get -1 to hit. That said, it's the best of a bad bunch, as the Triarch Stalker is a pretty inefficient platform for two S9 shots. I take it cos the model is cool.

4. 10, because if you take 20 you've spent 240 points on just 1 troop slot. However you can try 'silver tide' and go for big units of 20 warriors, in which case you'll want to build your army around supporting these units (Cryptek, Ghost Ark, Anrakyr, Res Orb). Could be fun to try out, but I don't think it's a very strong tactic, as even with all that support Warriors are still pretty easy to wipe out.

I was under the impression you go max warriors or not at all since 10 can be too easily.killed off and denied WBB rolls.

Vigo. Spain.

Yeah. You go silver tide, or inmortals.

Theres no point on mixing them unless (And this is very important):
-You like it (Extra points if you play in a "meta" that isn't ultra competitive or you just don't care)
-Its what you have.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

1. Tesla is better against most target and it is your horde killing weapon, works amazing on overwatch.
2. Immortals in units of 10, go deathmarks ONLY to fit metagame in your club/store (frail enaugh characters that need to be killed).
3. Stalker is not good, if you must use him as reroll 1 provider - gauss probably, if you want to do some damage and enemy comes to you take shredder, with gauss and 3+ theres going to be turns he`s useless.
4. If you plan to play under 1000 points - you can get away with 10 man units in cover most of the time, if you play 1000+ go 20 or immortals only, too easy to deny protocols on small squads.

Go read tactics thread.

You MUST have 6 man squad of regular destroyers (lookup their strategem).
Every list starts from some cryptek and some overlord(lookup strategem to use mywillbedone twice).
Mephrit is not the best option for dynasty. Go for nihilakh or sautekh for shooting.
Dooms day arks are best used agressively with sautekh code - or you waste those sweet gauss shots.
Immotekh is very good, ignore his flayed one ability - they are too expensive.
Sautekh warlord trait to reuse command points on 5+ is very good - but taking some form of deny the witch is important if your meta is psyker heavy, and ignoring morale is super important if you going with those 2x20 warriors squads of yours(if going sautekh command point return route - you can use strategem to autopass morale too).

Bigger units are generally better because of My Will Be Done, but people also take smaller squads to fill out battalions.

Oh, and count me on team Tesla for their weapons.

That depends on your list actually. I like to run two squads of 10 tesla immortals and a squad of 20 warriors in my army because I absolutely LOVE using Veil of Darkness or The Deceiver to drop my max troops on objectives or to shoot an enemy squad off an objective. Then again, I LOVE Infantry.

If you find you like running C'Tans, or Tomb Blades, or other units outside of the Troops section more, then by all means run 3 squads of 5 immortals to babysit your back field objectives and let the rest of your army pick off threats or protect them.

Do note that I am still a very new player (started in 8th), but I am learning new stuff everyday from reading strategy guides, watching youtube videos, and talking to more experienced players on forums (like here!).

40 warriors and 10 immortals? Easy

2 squads if 20 warriors, a squad of 10 immortals (MWBD target)

Then chuck in a chronotek, and another HQ (an overlord, CCB, imhotek, etc.) This fills out a battalion and leaves you with a solid base list. Now you need to choose where to go from there: more warriors and immortals(second battalion)? Shard of the deciever bomb? Destroyers? Wraiths? Whatever you think looks cool and you want to run.

Leave out any triarch, just not good enough.

Chuck in a couple DDA and you're on your way to a solid list.
