Calumnia.
“Calumnia is the crown of the Coryza system, a beautiful, spacious world of great wealth, with clear azure skies above the well-ordered cities, each embedded into rolling fields of green and yellow. A shrine world; as it was known, Calumnia is a testimony to the wealth of the imperium, a crime free haven, policed by an under-strength PDF force and the Adeptus Arbites. Worship of the emperor was a communal time, and the masses would flock to the great marble spires of the imperial cult’s churches in order to pray and give thanks to the benevolent master of mankind. I’m reliably and consistently informed by the local authorities that the populace above and below surface take alternating shifts in the mining catacombs, allowing all citizens to enjoy their planet’s natural beauty and exquisite cuisine.” The Ministorum representative looked up from his dataslate and examined his surroundings. Cautiously he returned to tapping away at the holo-projector, his movements swift and silent, as though trying to evade detection. A sound on the gravel outside the building was all the warning he needed, and his eyes shot up as his hand shot to the holstered laspistol at his waist. A small feline rounded the corner, and the man exhaled deeply. “However, it remains unclear how exactly Calumnia acquired its huge wealth, as, while sustainable; the world’s mining prowess is not enough to be generating the credits evident in the architecture, in exports alone.” The man looked around again, his head whipping crazed to the right as though he had heard a sound through the deafening silence. Hastily he erased the report draft. No, now was not the time to notarise his observations, but he resolved to gently probe at the native population for any additional information they may have…
Darkness.
She hadn’t seen daylight in almost 14 cycles. She had been just a child when, like all others, she had been carted off to work for the good of the imperium. While the surface of the world was one of peace, underneath the planets crust, the hum of machinery was constant, and in colossal underground hives workers greased the gears of the imperial war machine in blood, sweat and tears, toiling away for days on end. Calumnia’s biggest export was the minerals that lay miles below the surface, so deep in fact that it would take over a cycle to reach the surface again when the shifts rotated. She was sick to death of it. Watching men, women, and each cycle’s fresh crop of children descend into the lower depths to mine rare minerals and ores. This cycle alone, an entire route had collapsed, crushing thousands of workers to death in the smoke-filled darkness. While the surface above was the epitome of civilisation, the catacombs below were a montage of all the horrors of the imperium. Such was her quality of life, that as a woman, sexual harassment, bullying and even physical violence were almost daily occurrences. Perhaps it was the frustrations of the men, oppressed and over-worked that brought out their primitive natures, or perhaps it was sheer cowardice that drove them to prey upon their weaker counterparts. She thanked the Gods daily that the men down in the mining sectors were neutered at birth… Emperor forbid their natures ever intensified with the chemical testosterone she had read was native to the unmutilated male body…
Some saw hope in the annual ascension; where one tenth of the populace reaching their twentieth cycle were taken to the surface to become apprentice diplomats, medical neophytes or, trained in the martial arts to join the ranks of the Arbites or Local PDF. She was under no such illusion. She had heard whispers of the young men and women taken being herded into great facilities and put to the sword by regiments of the planetary defence force, mass murdered in their ranks to ensure the populace below never became swollen enough to rally a rebellion against their masters. The imperial truth spoke of mankind as a unified war machine, conquering the stars for a better tomorrow. The imperial truth was a lie. The N System was isolated far from the watchful regulators of the ministorum, and so long as their production targets were met, the Imperium cared nothing for the tyrannical regime of the planets rulers. They were just numbers, expendable and without worth, fed the bare minimum rations to ensure they survived healthily enough to continue working until they died. Retirement was a false promise. 65 cycles old, and you were to join the populace above the surface crust. Shame no one could ever live that long down here. Smoke filled lungs and tired muscles wore to the bone within 35, and that was assuming that the hundreds of monthly accidents didn’t take your meaningless life from you early, crushed, suffocated or even eaten by the larger creatures that sometimes resided below, made aggressive through the disturbance to their habitats. Long ago they had been issued small knives for self-defence, but slowly the population had “acquired” a few Lasguns from the local PDF as their rounds had a realistic, if low, chance of piercing these creature’s thick hides. With no way of charging the power packs, they had resorted to black market trading with Rogue traders and Renegades that passed through, offering unrefined mineral ore in exchange for Automatic weaponry. While no more powerful that the Lasguns, these weapons made a load noise as they discharged, and sometimes opened wounds that didn’t immediately cauterise as the heat beams of their predecessors had.
No.
No, she had had enough. She would no longer be a number. She would make them notice. She began sowing the seeds of rebellion, grouping together with her fellow women; which wasn’t difficult, they travelled in groups for protection from the more desperate and crazed men, and whispering a hope. A hope that glowed in the darkness like a spark, her words a fuel that ignited, until the unrest was violent and unstable, unpredictably flickering as a flame dances across it’s source. They would strike tonight.

Hi there guys, welcome to the birth of my humble renegade guard blog. This project was born of a desire to create an all female military force in the 41st millenium, but also to bring the non-heretical turncoats so briefly brushed over in the fluff to the tabletop. with this in mind; I've grabbed 3 boxes of Genestealer Cult Neopytes, and built my 8th edition kill team board (for our gaming group, 2x2, pics to follow)

Fear not; I shall not be lumping great balls of greenstuff to the chests of my figures and calling them women, no, in actuality I intend to augment the figures very little, malnourished women don't have huge breats, my women shall be very minimalist. I ordered 30 female heads from a company called statuesque miniatures, 10 'female heads' 10 'angry bobs' and 10 'bionic'.

hopefully this blog will be new stuff you haven't seem before.... my buildings are very unique, and my minatures should have an ongoing narrative as you'll see. I'll be covering Tactics, Fluff; and plenty of P&M don't you worry as I build and paint a small GUARD army.

fetching the camera now.... prepare for poor quality Iphone images!!

So while my phone charges so I can take some more pictures, close ups and product details etc, I thought I'd share with you my review of the statuesque miniatures heads I've ordered for my army.

off the bat, they were well packaged, cost me about £16 including postage, and arrived within 3 days. excellent. the parts are metal, which I like, and appear to have very very little, if any blemishes. however having done a quick total of my points so far... yeahhhhh I'mma need a sh*t tonne of these. 3 infantry squads with sgts geared well, 2 company commanders, and a command squad barely scrapes 250pts... I'm beginning to understand the CP battery hate in 8th edition.... just wow.

I should also probably mention that I have another box of miniatures coming; 3 Ogryns. these guys in the fluff will be "Pit Ponies" of sorts, used for heavy lifting, support positioning and cart pushing in the mines. in game, each Orgryn will be attached to an infantry squad as a Heavy Weapons Team, Most likely with heavy bolter as it's closest to the ripper guns they come with. with any luck; I'll be picking those up at the FLGS tomorrow.

The idea for this force is that, as theres a limit on armour in our ruleset, my guardswomen simply swarm the enemy, drowning them in FRSRF S3 shots, and replenishing loses though use of the Valhallan Stratagem. these girls are gonna cause problems.

Now I know what you're all thinking.... what the hell is going on with those buildings? well, I took one look at the Ryza-pattern STC ruins, and new I had to play with them. a distinct lack of excessive Gothicism gave them an appeal, and though they "aren't designed" to stack, a few floor tiles from the cities of death boxes fit rather neatly into the gap left by their distinctive tops. I liked that they looked industrial, and felt they suited my home-world's atmosphere nicely, being a mining world, and damaged by the ongoing conflict between my rebellion and the local PDF.
I'll take more pictures within an hour.

The models themselves are primed silver, with the tile, and I will be painting and detailing it over the coming weeks. scattered for cover are barrels, ammunition and those tubes which I will be saying contain unrefined ores. to further restrict vehicles, both ends of the board have tank traps, meaning that only walkers will be able to maneuverer properly. all movement will be halved on this board and ranges reduced by 25% due to it's size. we were going to play kill team initially, but a rewrite of old-school combat patrol/40k in 40mins was more appealing. if anyone see's this post before tomorrow, how do we feel about sentinels?

Well.... that's a disaster.

I never realised how hunched over the genestealer cult miniatures are.... the picture on the box has them almost upright?

Actually pretty furious.... maybe I can use Cadians, but then they're just another cadian army... any thoughts? I've got 30 female heads here...

maybe a sororitas army? with the prospero space marine armour being very minimalist, I could maybe see that working... damn n blast.

I'll keep working on the board here... but the fluff and miniatures have gone down the toilet.

Interesting background lore you have written will be fun to see where it will end up.

On the model part have you looked at stuff like Victoriamini/ Madrobots? They produce some interesting alternatives.

Did you try all the torsos? I think 3 of them are just plain old too hunched for the task, but as I am also using those heads, and a bunch of them work together, though certainly not all. That was okay for my Inq 28 needs, not sure if you need a more uniform presentation.

Only a few of the genestealer cult neophytes are hunched over, and it would make sense if these warrior women were all miners and labourers underground that they would not be in the best of shapes. They could simply be half-crouched or ducking under crumbling masonry. Maybe build one or two up as test models and see what you think.

Do you know what your sin is, Malcolm Reynolds?
Ah hell, I'm a fan of all seven.
But right now, I'm gonna have to go with wrath.

Soooo update: I've arranged a trade deal for some guardsmen… this blog will now follow a women's regiment of the Imperial Guard, Cadia's Angels...

until Monday then I've done some work on the board. I wanted it to look grubby, unclean, dirty and industrial.... and I think I've achieved that so far? pics coming

sorry lads; 2 of those came out sideways; I forget Iphones do that.... obviously the walls haven't been discoloured yet, but the ground has been coated in agrax earthshade (a heaven send for new painters) and the floors in the buildings have been done in Nuln Oil.... I plan on acquiring some water effect for in the gutters, and when done the city will have casualties laying around cities of death artwork styles... plenty of blood too, this is an active warzone and it's gonna look mean...

I also now realise I haven't finished the tank traps yet either...

Hey guys, so an update for you all: Come Monday my cadian women's regiment will be taking off. until then I would like to ask how people would go about homebrewing rules for emplaced weaponry in kill team? I'm thinking about maybe sticking a couple of heavy bolters on the map?
