Hello,

Simple question, here: If your weapon does not need line of sight does it inherently ignore cover as well?

Berzerkers sitting on the bottom floor of ruins (which apparently block line of sight, but not movement lol) were being shot at by Basilisks and Mortar teams. Because they didn't need Line of Sight, they ignored cover. I wasn't sure if this was a rule, but it certainly made sense to me. Is this the case?

The Dark Reaper Exarch Tempest Launcher does not need line of sight, but does that mean it also ignores cover? Or was my Imperial Guard foe living in the past? (Or does the Basilisk indeed have a rule that allows it to ignore cover, which I asked and was answered with "nope").

In a word, No. Nothing in the cover rules gives exceptions for not having LOS, even for things like Barricades.

I am pretty certain the answer is no. Not needing line of sight does not mean you ignore the cover bonus. Generally a weapon or unit has to have a specific rule for that on their datasheet.

8th edition doesn't have a lot of complexity in its main rules, this sort of thing normally boils down to "what does it say on the datasheet" and can vary from unit to unit ( or psychic power or whatever).

What has been already stated: In general, no, ignoring LOS does not also ignore cover, and vice versa.

Have your opponent show you his datasheets. It's possible his unit has some special rule that allows him to do both, but unless his unit has such a rule, Ignores LOS and Ignores Cover are two totally separate things.

Thought so. I was getting cover saves from the mortars but not from the Basilisks, but I specifically asked if they had a rule that allowed them to ignore cover and he said no, just that they ignore cover because they don't need line of sight.

I don't really care in regards to what happened in the past, but I wanted to ask because I'll be ignoring line of sight this weekend and don't want to ignore people's cover following a fake rule.

Your opponent has edition lag and was cheating, albeit likely unintentionally. If it isn’t on the Datasheet/weapon profile then it isn’t a thing.

There are weapons like the Tau SMS that do both they have a specific rule saying they ignore cover though, so it would be odd for the weapon to say it does that if all weapons that ignore line of sight ignored cover.

Most LOS ignoring weapons are AP -1, which means they already negate the +1 for cover. But that’s all there is.
