I've been brewing up some Knight lists, and a couple of them have enough points left over to take a Forgeshrine. After looking over the rules it honestly seems a bit crap.

If you haven't read it, the Forgeshrine is a deployable building which has no stats and does nothing itself in the game. It provides cover for infantry on it, as well as a special rule for Knights. If a Knight ends his movement within 3", you can choose a special effect to take place next turn: either you heal D3 wounds, add 6" to your movement, or pick a weapon and next time it fires you fire the maximum number of shots (12 on a RFBC for example). One small (big) downside is that the Knight can't shoot or charge that turn and can only make 1 attack.

How is this thing worth it? D3 wounds isn't much (if it was a set 3 it'd be a bit better), 6" of movement doesn't help when you've wasted a turn sitting by the thing, and 12 shots on the RFBC seems worse compared to 4D6, plus shooting from all your other weapons.

There's only one use I can see for this thing and that's for the Valiant's super-flamer, but even then, 6D6 shots over the course of two turns looks better than a guaranteed 18. Additionally, you're stuck by the thing for a turn, having to spend longer to get in range to use the thing in the first place. If it's used just one Shieldbreaker, then it reloads it instead, you don't get to choose if you want the missile or extra shots.

So Dakka, is this thing even useable, or just use it as generic terrain?

Using it is less powerful than not using it. It's essentially a handicap not worth taking even if it was free.

Not really. The penalty for using it makes it near worthless, regardless of the points cost.

There's basically only one scenario I can ever see myself using it.

Valiant, it, enemy force is split in 2 parts. One is long range firebase that deploys so far turn 1 you can't reach them anyway. Rest are deep strikers. So basically turn 1 you can't reach them with anything but shoulder cannons and missiles and you know enemy will be deploying deep strikers closer.

In that case maximum pain to enemy makes it useful. Whether that's enough to justify taking it even if you know in advance this is army you face is another thing.

Other than that ironically knights are not the ones that would be using but say IG or marines. It would be basically purchasable terrain to give you say some LOS blocking terrain where YOU want.

Whether even that's worth the points is dubious at best though...

Normally opponent WANTS you to use it and would be willing to give you one for free to do so(or at least should be willing if he knows the rules) so that's telling a lot on should you use it...

I think it might have a kinda niche use, it's assured cover for a few units and a techpriest can stand on it and throw a wound back on the knight for free if your questor mech, set it up backwards so the dock portion is facing your deployment zone, that way you can dock something suitably dakka worthy like a castellan or crusader and it will be moderately safe from combat by virtue of the terrain piece and the infantry around it, the knight itself will also be pretty well covered and should be able to benefit from that for the save increase but there's soo many holes in the forgeshrine it won't be hindered from shooting out, the ability is booty but i think its worth consideration if its treated more as a elevated aegis defence line if that makes sense.

Not in its current state, but if it get's FAQ to allow shooting while getting the buffs it might be "ok", so send your comments to GW and hope for the best

Ironic that the shrine got nerfed when it was already record breaking bad. It's bad enough it should give you points rather than cost points!

It isn't worth it for knights, though I guess you could try and make it work as a ruin for some infantry-based army.

That said it doesn't even block LoS, so I'm not sure there's even that.

It all but forces you not to fire missiles off a Dominus knight. You could argue for maxing out a conflagration cannon, but you can't do that if you've fired any missiles previouisly.

Unfortunately there's just nothing to be done with this or the webway portal. Use it as terrain, if you want, but don't pay for it.

As scenic terrain, it’s a bunch of kits pieced together into one nice looking set. Get it if you like the way it looks.

As a game piece, it’s hot garbage. Avoid it, it’s a waste of points.

It isn't even a bunch of kits. It is just the shared parts of a magnavent and a promethium forge with a few gribblies.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

That would be a “bunch”.

Shared parts as in the same parts that are in both kits.

It is half of a kit.

The removable power sells are kinda cool, but I wouldn't even get it for those(plasma pipes have a similar piece). Just get one of the earlier mentioned kits.

Sorry for being a bit late to the thread, but the Sacristan Forgeshrine is basically a $40 version of the $75 Galvanic Magnavent box, except they replaced one sprue of walkways with what looks like a slightly smaller sprue of pipes and cool looking control panels. In that regard it looks like a nearly 50% price reduction for a terrain piece, making it a relatively good value if you just want some industrial terrain.

True enough. It’s fine as terrain.
