Subject: Starting again with Adeptus Sororitas after a 15 years hiatus

Hello everyone. After a quite long hiatus, I'm starting modelling again, since getting myself an house make possible to have some work space.
I started playing WH40K with 2cnd Edition release (mostly as Eldar but also Chaos Space Marines when the Codex was released). My first Sister of Battle model was a flamer sister used for a Necromunda ganger with carapace armor. 3rd Edition got me back for a few games with an Adepta Sororitas army with Inquisitorial backbone and with a lot of patience and hours rampaging Ebay, I amassed an interesting lot :
Squad leaders / characters :
- 1 Celestine (metal)
- 1 Celestine kit with 2 Germinae (NIB)
- 1 Canoness with magnetized weapons
- 7 Veterant Superior Sisters (with mixed converted Weaponary)
- 6 Seraphim Superior Sisters (with mixed converted Weaponary) - got 1 with each of my Ebay orders ...
- 1 Sister Dialogus
- 1 Sister Hospitaller
- 1 Sister Imagifer
- 2 Sister with Battle Standard (count as Imagifer)
Regular troops :
- 29 Sisters with bolters (7 with helmet)
- 9 Sisters with flamer (1 with helmet)
- 4 Sisters with melta gun
- 5 Sisters with stormbolter
- 16 Seraphims with bolt pistols
- 6 Seraphims with hand flamers
- 2 Seraphims with Inferno pistols
- 3 Sisters Repentia
Heavy weapons :
- 7 heavy bolter
- 2 multi-melta
- 2 heavy flamer
Vehicles :
I grabed a badly paint / damaged lot of vehicles on Ebay I'm still waiting for, but the parts which can be salvaged made it worth.
Adding to the stuff I already owned, I got :
- 8 Rhino MK I models (1 old conversion to clean ; 7 from Ebay, to clean & repair)
- 6 Rhino MK IIC models (4 NIB ; 2 from Ebay, to clean & repair ; 3 spare Razorback kits ; 2 spare Predator kits)
- 1 Repressor (Forge World) complete kit
- 1 Exorcist (GW ; metal) complete kit
- 1 Immolator (from Exorcist kit) complete kit
Inquisition related :
- 1 Penitent Engine
- 1 Inquisitor (female model) - She will probably be a VSS count-as.
- 1 Ministorum priest with eviscerator
- 1 confessor kyrinov - Count as Ministorum priest ; I think about magnetizing the hand holding the power Maul to be able to use it on other models.
- 6 Converted Archoflagellants
- 2 Death Cult Assassins
- 1 Culexus Assassin
- 1 2cnd Ed. Azrael - Count as Ministorum priest once converted.
- 1 2cnd. Ed. Dark Angels chapelain - Count as Ministorum priest once converted.
- 1 2cnd. Ed. Dark Angels standard bearer - Count as Crusader or Ministorum priest once converted.
- 1 Astropath (inquisitor retinue) - Count as Ministorum priest.
- 1 Scribe (inquisitor retinue) - Count as Ministorum priest.
- 2 servo-skulls - No more used as far as I can see ?
- 1 Land Raider (from Ebay lot, incomplete and very badly damaged)
Space Marines Allies :
I got some spare materials from 3rd Ed. release witch can be used conversion and I bought a few years ago some Space Wolves for a never started project.
- 20 marines (+/-) from flea market ; already assembled, stripping in Glanzer for now ;
- 5 Dark Angels Terminators (getting into Glanzer very soon).
- 5 generic Terminators with missing parts (already cleaned).
- 5 Space Wolves Terminators (NIB).
- 3 Space Wolves Grey Hunter (NIB).
- 2 damaged generic Land Speeders.
- 1 damaged generic Dreadnought.
- 1 Rogue Trader Rapier with Laser Destructor Array (warped, it needs some hammer fixing [this model is HARD] and bathing in Glanzer).
- some parts from differents kits and leftovers from my little Chaos Space Marine army.
Now, since inventory is done, the project is to make an Adepta Sororitas army with some potential allies reserves : Space Wolves and Inquisition (Ordo Hereticus).
I plan to use a common color scheme for the Sisters and the Marines with dark metallic grey (not black but not close to the classical Space Wolves blue-gray), but I'm not sure of the secondary color since I plan to do some conversion, making fur on tabars and cloaks. I will use parts from the SW Grey Hunters boxes to add a more ferral feel to the Sisters. The old "Wolf and Sister" comic had some great ideas in the final pages I want to try. A variable secondary colors for fur would be great but will recquiere a lot of work (but will prevent a nervous crack-down from painting always the same color ...).
Space Wolf or similar backpack would be great, maybe not for every sister, but for some like Dominions but I have still to find a good (and not too expensive) source.

I'm interested to see what you do with your Sisters. I have a small army of them myself that I've been shuffling around my mind, trying to figure out a theme/paint that works for me. Count me subscribed. Don't do them all at once. Test a small batch of five that are representative of the whole.

Yep. I plan to paint a squad at once, except for basecoat since I have an airbrush. To the moment I'm waiting for my paint order (Vallejo mostly).
Today work so far :
1. Since I received one of my parts order, I started working on my Inquisitor-to-be. I would like to make the weapon option magnetized and compatible with the Cannoness but it won't be easy ...
I plan to add a fur cloack on the Inquisitor's back, clean all Chaos markings on the horse and add some cybernetic parts on.
2. I started working on some conversion part to add some details on the sister, using molds. My first idea is a "celitc braid / band". Since my skills with Green Stuff are not really good, I decided to make a master using 0,5mm copper wire and mold it using Oyumaru. It was half a failure. Copper wire is too hard to use and the many gaps make molding quite meh ... So I have to find another material to work, like 0,3-0,5mm tin wire.
3. Last test is making some fur for a regular sister cloak.

Little update : Since I'm waiting for some more stuff, there is little progress so far. The good point is I received my Rhinos lot from Ebay and I can start the clean and rescue part. 5 more litres of Glanzer are in for the cleaning
These are the Rhino IIb I received :
* The first one is a Baal Predator : everything is strongly glued (plastique glue). Dremel and sanding will be recquiered and I think the turret and sponsons will be sacrificied.
* Second one is badly glued [ yeah ! ] except for the turret and stormbolter mounts [ add your own curses here ]. It's soaking in glanzer and will jump in the freeze soon since the glue seems to be Cyanoacrylate.
* Last one is ... well, orkishified. It's the bastard child of a rhino and a chimera. I had to sacrifice the middle part (chimera floor) since plastic cement was used but the flanks are fine and soaking.
I will rebuild n°3 with plasticard since the tracks are fine. Since lot of parts will be covered by icons, armor plates and Repressor components, it should be fine.
With these 3, it will push my IIc rhino line up to 7. At least five will be converted to Repressors.
Next will be the 9 Ib rhinos.

These are the Ib Rhinos to clean and fix. The Land Raider (parts) was a bonus even if I can't use it for a pure sister army.
Some are quite badly damaged or "converted" but at least 8 can be recovered with Glanzer, minor work and new painting.
The biggest problem are the missing pintle-mounted storm bolters, so nothing really bad.

I was quite busy completing my airbrush booth this, so little progress on the sisters except for the Lady Inquisitor kitbash and the dozer blade (=snow plow) for the Rhinos, Repressors and Immolators.
I had some problem warping the plasticard for the dozer blade (2mm thick) but I managed this result after a few attempts. I got some resin today and I plan to make a mold and mass produce it for my Rhino based vehicles once completed.

First of all, really nice collection! Kudos on assembling your forces. You've got great options in there, both in terms of cool classic figures and a playable army. Looks like you've got your work cut out for you on recovering some of those Rhino hulls, but you're well into it... I'll definitely be following along!

Subject: WiP Color scheme test model
|
|

Today I did some simple color tests for the sisters :
I'm quite happy with the armor's base color but still hesitating about the secondary color (paint basic white on the model). Red would work but would be too close to the very common Order of our Martyred Lady. White would be close to Ebon Chalice which is less seen, but rather than pur white I'm thinking about ivory white.
The other option I'm thinking about is light ice blue. The problem is I'll go for a winter finish on the bases and I fear the miniatures color would fade.
Any advice for secondary color, knowing the bases will be sienna earth, snow white and ice blue ?
