Hi, been slowly getting into Heresy since its conception and have a solid Death Guard base. However, between liking lots of power armour troops in my Death Guard and loving the DG specific terminators I've ended up with around 15 terminators that I got right at the start that I don't really need for my DG. Wanting to branch out and do somthing a bit different, so I'm thinking of using these terminators for an all deep striking Iron Warriors force, 2000 points.

Rite of War: Primarchs Chosen

Perturabo w/ Forgebreaker - 490

Command Rhino - 100

5 Terminators w/ plasma blaster, fists ect - 230

10 Terminators w/ 2 plasma blasters, fists ect - 440

5 tyrant siege terminators - 295

Leviathan w/ melta lance, claw - 290
Dreadnought drop pod - 100

55 points spare, maybe worth spliting up the 10 man for more flexibility in a 2000 point game?
Start rolling for reserves turn one with +1/-1 to my reserve roles, no scatter within 24'' of the rhino (if it's alive).

What type of Terminator armor are you planning on using?

The 10 man squad is cataphractii and the 5 man squad is Tartaros, they're the only models for the list I currently have so I couldn't really change them.

Its a cool looking army but with only 2 scoring units and if perty dies you cant score at all might crush you.

My main concern would be that if you don't get the first turn, your opponent only needs to kill a rhino to win the game.

This army will be a very challenging army to play. Foot slogging terminators attract a lot of fire before they make it into any kind of close combat. Starting the game with only one model on the board, and that model being a Rhino, is just begging to lose the game. If you don't go first, and your opponent can draw line of sight to that Rhino...

You'll probably be deploying the Rhino in a far corner of your deployment zone on the edge of the board in or behind terrain. The no scatter within 24" won't mean much when you'll only be able to use a fraction of that possible area due to being on the edge of the table. With only a couple units that can claim objectives, it'll be very difficult. The bulk of your force can't move more than 6" a turn, can't run, and can't even sweeping advance. That means deep striking onto objectives. Meaning your opponent will know exactly where you are going and can plan for it. Not good.

The challenges facing this army are armor, flyers, and mobility. Your strengths, deep striking from turn 1, and formidable close combat units, are marginalized by poor mobility, and lack of fire support. Basically, you don't threaten your opponent with shooting. The biggest threat you provide is where you could deep strike, and even when you do, your opponent will have a full turn to move in reaction and shoot at your terminators. Only one model that can shoot AV 14 with melta, and armored ceramite is a thing. Perturabo's bombardment means he has to stand still and not move the turn he uses it. The Cyclone Missile Launchers on the Tyrant Siege Termy's are the sum of your fire support, and will have a very difficult time with any kind of AV 12+.

Far too much of this army depends on good reserve rolls and the Command Rhino. With good reserve rolls and good deep strike rolls, it could be a formidable force. It'll just be very challenging to leverage that advantage into winning.

But it's very cool and the basis for a larger army. Let's face it, terminators are cool and it's hard to do a good all terminator list in HH outside of Tsons and firedrakes so most people don't bother - and even then, those armies need other things to make them work. I say do bother and enjoy it!

Rule of Cool > All

If you play 30K for fun, then an all Termy deep striking force of Death Guard will never let you down. Playing competitively? Not so much. That's all I was trying to say. It's going to be a challenging army to play. Now, seeing a bunch of fully painted DG Termy's led by Perturabo would be kinda awesome on the table.

A Death Guard army lead by Perturabo would be rather surprising though

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Just a couple of points, firstly there seems to be some confusion. I normally play dg, however this is an iron warriors force led by Pert. The reason I mentioned dg is to convey that I do not normally play iron warriors and that this would be a new army.

Secondly I realise this is not necessarily a competitive build I just wanted something different from the classic: termies, Spartan, vets, phosphex that I see all too frequently. I played deathwing in 4/5th edition and gk paladins in 5/6th so I’m use to all terminator lists, although they are getting more difficult to make competitive.

As for expanding the list further any suggestions on a good ground force to back up the terminators? I’ve got a small household of imperial knights. My main point is that I’m trying to do something you wouldn’t normally see.

Cheers

The new FAQ affects your list:

“Under the sub-heading Relentless Strategist in the Special Rules section, replace the text with the following:
All models in the same army as Perturabo gain Furious Charge while in an enemy’s deployment zone. If Perturabo is held in Reserve, he may choose the turn in which he and any unit to which he is attached arrive from Reserve, starting from the first turn of the game, rather than the second.” Pg 5 of the new FAQ

Wow that really does put a bit of a spanner in the works, limits my tactical flexibility quite a bit. At least it ensures Pert a term squad (but Pert has to drop with them) and the dread down turn one. Thanks for the heads up.
