Hi guys, I played my first game of
40k after a multi-year break this week. I really enjoyed the game and thought 8th played really well. My opponent was a guy who works at my local gaming store and he really took the time to go through the rules with me and was generally a great player.
Towards the end of the game, a large unit of wyches was locked in combat with several of my units. My hellbrute was a few inches away from the wyches but not in combat with them. The next closest unengaged unit to the hellbrute was a succubus but my opponent said I couldn’t shoot her as she’s a character and the engaged wyches were closer. I thought this seemed odd but reading the rules back I think he was right.
I decided instead to shoot the next closest unit (a big blob of
DE warriors) and use the fire frenzy strat to double my shots. My opponent said again that I couldn’t use the strat which lets you fire twice at the closest unit as the wyches were closer. This seemed wrong as my hellbrute isn’t allowed to shoot the wyches as they are in combat and it would make the strategy pretty restrictive . I didn’t argue it though as I didn’t think it would have much affect on the game overall.
Can anyone tell me if he was right about the strategy or can I target the closest unit I’m allowed to shoot? I really like my Autocannon/missile launcher Helbrutes and fire frenzy could be really useful for them in future.
Thanks
