Just bought a new Custodes army and I’m looking for ideas for their bases.

My one previous army was based with just sand but I want to make this one look a bit more impressive. I don’t mind spending a little more time on them but would happily go with something simple.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

My Custodes are all based with Modrock to give the bases a little more texture... but they aren't very cinematic...

If you want impressive, have the Custards standing on broken bits of terrain, fallen foes, etc.

I am planning on my Custodes being Shadowkeepers, so I am going to base them on these http://www.tinyworlds.co.uk/bases/resin-bases/round-bases/round-paved-32mm.

The idea is that they are a fairly light coloured dungeon flagstone (mid grey at darkest), so you could imagine them pacing the depths of the palaces dungeons guarding mankind's darkest foes.

If you want to do something a little better, look into scenic bases. With the number of troops you will field, I think it best to make them look speshul.

Edited to add - You can also try and achieve a similar effect with a thin layer of greenstuff that you sculpt yourself.

I really like the idea of marble bases on Custodes. They're classy guys.

I gave my Sisters of Silence AoS Shattered Dominion bases (painted similar to picture below) and I plan to do the same with Custodes. The 40mm bases contain very little Sigmar-ish details and the few can be shaved away or covered with basing materials of your choice.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.

So I think I’m going to go with the dungeon floor bases from tinyworld.com. However there are no equivelant 75mm bases which the Vertus Praetors are supplied with, only 60mm bases.

Would the models be legal with 60mm bases?

Why not a textured rolling pin.

you can always use the correct base size so you never have to worry about that kinda thing.

basic flag stone to crazy temples and stuff,.

I would say whatever you choose, make sure it contrasts with the mostly gold colour scheme of your Custodes (if that how you're painting them).

I based mine with a sandy, arid dustbowl theme, which is my quick-n-easy go-to. But the yellow is so close to the gold the models can tend to meld into the base depending on the lighting:

Spoiler:

Not so bad in this image actually

I should probably have mentioned they’ll be mostly black shadow keepers.
