So I just randomly came into a Necron army, but I've never played them OR faced them. I have the codex. But I need some help. It's a lot to digest a codex quickly.

I primarily face Loyalist Marines and Knights. What are my best options? I'm looking at Mephrit for my dynasty, because armor.

A quick check seems like very few units are just terrible.

Give me knowledge, because I don't have the time to read through a 140+ page tactica thread.

Thanks!

Thanks for the condescension, always a good response when someone asks for help.

And that only has generic breakdowns from when the codex dropped. There has been errata, FAQs, and the beta rules that alter that. I also asked for specific help against Marines.

That breakdown doesn't tell me anything of others' experience and good stratagem combos, benefits of mixing Dynasties, and the usefulness of certain units in certain Dynasties as opposed to others.

Destroyers are pretty good. Scarabs gives you options to block the enemy. I saw a couple of Battlereports and there you can have a look and learn something about them ( in a momento you are painting for example).

For sure there will be necron players that will give you a better answer.

It somehow depends on your meta, if it is a few "deathstar" type units like Magnus or Morty, or the IK or even the 9 Nurglings sitting on swarmping towards you (trust me they will be a big big trouble moreover than not), Sautekh's Methodical Destrutcion is your best pick to shoot them dead. On the other hand, if you fancy big Immortal / Warrior / Destroyer units while enemy is not taking the big bads, the Mephrit's Talent of destruction is very good.

The most successful experience I've ever had with Scarabs is charge into fully psychic protected Magnus, explode one causing 3 MW, fight on and inflict another wound on him with the tons of dice an a bit luck. Magnus swing back and killed 7. the last base fleed. Feels satified as they at least striped off 1/4 of Magnus wounds with about 1/4 of the cost of magnus.

Your post is pretty much “explain to me four months of Necrons discussion as I don’t want to do research.” It’s like that kid who skips out on a lecture and then begs his classmates for notes. If you want nuance, you should go and read through all that discussion. Otherwise the first post in the Necrons thread is a great resource for someone who doesn’t know much of the army.

I will spoon fed a bit here, because why not.

some basic tips include :
Mephrit dynasty (most of the time) with the following
- Tesla Immortals
- Gauss Tomb Blade

Sometimes :
- Nephrek Destroyers
- Nephrek Canoptek Wraiths

and in mostly every case :
- 1 max unit of either scarab or warriors to blob
- ALWAYS take veil of darkness, this is not negotiable.

C'tan are really good, even more so the deceiver.

You can also do a particularly troll worthy build using Deceiver + Nemesor + Obyron + Max Lychguard unit, but it's a lot of point for a one trick pony.

This is by no mean an exhaustive list of tips, but it's a start. The fun is figuring out the rest! Cheers!

Imho : -Immortals (Avoid Warriors)
-Scarabs (Screen/Objectives)
-Destroyers (Groups of 6 for Stratagem)
-Tomb Blades
-Doomsday Ark (best Anti Tank in Codex)
-C'tan Shards are mediocre at best but could be worthwile
-no Named HQ cause i think they are way to expensive

Destroyers are the best unit in the codex, their stratagem is excellent and should be used every turn on a unit of 6. The only Dynasty that really helps them is Nephrek because it lets you deep strike them for 1CP.

Doomsday Arks are very good and the Necrons only viable long range anti tank. Kind of an auto include. Sautekh benefits them as it allows them to move and shoot the low power profile without a -1 to hit. Mephrit and Nihilak are also good for them.

What to do with troops is a bit tricky. 3 x 10 Tesla Immortals with enough Overlords to put +1 to hit on them all can be good. Blobs of 20 Warriors can work, the trick is figuring out how much to invest in character support. Not bothering with a Battalion and investing all your points in more powerful units is also an option. There is no consensus on which is the best way to go.

The Sautekh Warlord trait is very good.

The Veil of Darkness is by far the most useful relic.

Scarabs are good for screening and objective grabbing.

Wraith can be a great distraction unit and soak up a lot of fire but are expensive.

Lastly, Necrons sadly have no answer to Imperial Knights. Tying them up with wraith might work.

I don't think OP is the one giving Necron players a bad name here...
