I have only just started painting minis, but I struggle a bit with 28mm minis. (I painted the sepulchral guard). My latest efforts were the bad guys from Arcadia Quest by CMON and found them a lot easier and more comfortable to paint, so until I improve my skills, I want to try to paint bigger models. Can anyone recommend some minis for me. I have just bought Rising Sun from CMON as well. Also I should add that I prefer not to have to assemble minis from a sprue although I imagine that making them is part of the appeal to a lot of people?

If you want cheaper bigger miniatures that are pretty easy to put together look at the Reaper Bones miniature line.

They use a softer more rubbery material that is cheap to produce and holds decent detail. It doens't work "as well" with standard infantry, but for things like dragons, monsters and bigger stuff its a very good material as its affordable. That makes it great for painting or casual collecting without breaking the bank as much.

Only thing is I don't know how easy it is to get paint off if you wanted to strip and repaint*. If you want to do that then metal is the best thing (as that's pretty resistant). #

*plastics/resins/hybrid materials are not as resistant to some chemicals use to paint strip so you have to research it and be a little careful otherwise you can melt them.

The bones stuff is cheap...and horrific to work with...and horrific to paint.
So make sure all sharp objects are locked away...
But they're cheap.

I got some reaper dark legends, which are pewter and generally only seem to be a few pieces to glue together. They are quite nice, and I bought "Cormac the druid" from black crow miniatures https://www.blackcrowminiatures.com/product-page/cormac-the-druid , but it cost me nearly $80 with shipping to have it sent to Australia. So far buying board games from CMON that I'll probably never play, is giving me the most bang for my buck.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
