Rawr!

Like many people I love the kroot but feel their position as an afterthought in the Tau codex is lacking. So I've decided to expand my Kroot into their own army, using the Orks rules.
They'll be quite melee heavy, as befits their role as Tau mercenary frontliners.

So far I've got a few Boys and Burna boys, as well as a pair of Skorcha buggies.

I'm set on having green skin, as it seems only fitting for an army that's meant to proxy as... well, greenskins...
The colour of the crests is giving me a bit of bother, though. I've tried the green on the first Boy, as well as red and a turquoise-blue. I'm still on the fence.

Kroot Boy #1. I want these chaps to be quite minimalist, both because they're basic grunts and because I'll have to make and paint a lot of them...
Their weapons are meant to be a crude slug pistol and whatever scaveneged melee weapon they feel like.

Burna Boy #1. I like flamethrowers.

Skorcha buggy. I like Mad Max and I like Flamethrowers.
I think I'm going to have another go at painting the body of this, not entirely happy.

Anyhoo, I'll try to get better photos soon.
Thanks for looking, and C&C welcome and appreciated!

Marvelous to see fellow Kroot looters! Definitely following this.

Just a hard-luck Kroot trying to make his way home. But there’s so many interesting people to meat.

I really like how you added an extra dimension to the head spines, as well as the color choices. It reminds me of the Streets of Rage video games.

Thanks for the kind words

I have nearly completed the build of a second buggy!
Once a crappity old Ford Focus, it has been reborn into a snow-crunching fire-spitting death machine. And it's electric powered, so environmentally sound, too. At least until the flamethrowing starts.

The tracked one is an old airfix model subaru impreza, I believe it was 1:24 scale but I bought it literally 15 years ago so I can't remember exactly....
The tracks are from a 1:48 scale Panzer tank, it's a fairly small tank so in that scale it makes the perfect size for WH40k cars
The flamer is Grey Knights, and there are various Ork parts as well. The barrels are scratch.

The second buggy uses an airfix Ford Focus, same scale as the imprezza. The flamer is Space Marine (attack bike, I think) and virtually everything else is scratch built.

Busy weekend of Kroot Looting. I got the first couple of boys complete and based:

Except I just noticed I haven't painted the bling in their head quills...
Anyhoo, wading through snowy foliage. Their bases are being done to match my Tau.

I also got good progress made on a Deff Dread:

Nothing overly Kroot about this, yet, but I'm thinking on how to Krootify it a bit with the detailing.

And finally, I also got started on my first HQ, a Shaper on Warbike (Painboy on Warbike)

Love me some converted Kroot, and these are no exception. Great work on the Kroot - dig the paint scheme on them - and on the vehicles. Nice start on the biker Shapter too.

Did you know Ork-Kroot used to have rules? (You knew Kroot Mercs had their own rules, right?)

I actually appreciate that yours aren't hulking green mutant Kroot, but did pick up the lootin' gene somewhere along the line

Rawr!

Been a busy month. I went in for surgery and have been in recovery for the past two weeks. I'd expected to have tonnes of time for the hobby but found I couldn't actually focus on painting without getting dizzy, so that put a damper on that!
Still, I've got some progress made recently.

I've done some painting on the second Skorcha, going for a sort of human graffiti theme.. Needs a lot more work, but I'm happy so far.

Also working on the first Battlewagon. I bought a few scale models to occupy me while getting over surgery, and I'm turning them into Krootork vehicles. This is a 1:35 scale 5 tonne truck called a 'Hillbilly Gun Truck'. I also have a jeep thing and a tank for two more Battlewagons.

@ Salvage I'd heard of Kroot Mercs but didn;t know they had any official rules. As for the ork genes, that's new to me! Interesting, though, so thanks for sharing. It's good to know my conversions don't immediately exile me from the 40k lore

Work has progressed greatly
I have got the first Battlewagon finished, as shown below. A second is very nearly done. Another 4 Boys are all but painted and some burnas are under the brush at the moment.

This is a transport one, with Kannon, four Big Shootas, Wreckin' ball, Deff Rolla and Grabbin' Klaw.
I wasn't keen on any of the Klaw ideas I came up with, so I decided to go with a massive saw arm instead. There aren't really any 'grabby' rules for the Klaw at the moment so it doesn't seem to make much difference...

The Wreckin' Ball isn't attached yet, for ease of painting

Another fan of Mad Max here, which your work emulates very well. Can't wait to see the war rig finished.

My first and only painting log.

Rawr!

A good and looty weekend to you all.

I've made progress on my Battlewagons this week, as shown below.

The first (red) is a transport and the second is more of a shooty-blowy-uppy one with the big gun and 'ard case added.

Coming along nicely, I feel. I've also finally settled on a complete scheme for the Kroot, which I'll photo soon

Rawr!

Been a while - I've been sick with a pretty crappy flu. Don't get sick often, and I seem to be out of practise. It's been about 18 years since my last cold/flu but this one has been a beast. it's hitting people in Wellington even when they've had their vaccine.

Definitely sent by Papa Nurgle.

Anyhoo, once the intial days of facial agony and leaking passed I got to some hobby stuff, and have made progress both here and on my other projects (Linked in sig).
Firslty, I've been working on my two WiP Battlewagons. After seeing a plog on here (I forget the name, sorry!) of a post-apoc butcher store, I was inspired to add some carnivore type trimmings to my truck-wagon.
Searching through my bits I found an awesome banner and range of meaty parts from Ogre Kingdoms models - at least that's what they were called when I bought them... - and so I made the meat hanger and banner for my battlewagon shown below.
It comes complete with the icy blue kroot hand clutching the symbol of T'au, which the Kroot of the MacTok'Tok clan consider to be their symbol. This is daubed over the MacTok'Tok tartan.

Next up is the first Spanner for my Burna Boyz, Wee Burny Billy MacTok'Tok. Kombi-Scorcha, Killsaw and tools.

Thanks for looking, and C&C are welcome and appreciated.

EDIT- extra photo of tartan
