Deathwatch chooses to re-roll ones to-wound vs elites. Mighty dreadnaughts had a chance to choose a deployment zone with easier acces to point markers.
Deathwatch concentrated on one flang inside and around the ruin leaving only one inceptor squad on the other flang to score a point. One helblaster squad managed to take the whole 3 floors of a ruin while the other squad had to be left in the open to stay within a re-roll aura. Dreadnaughts on the other hand, spread across the front, scouts occupied 3 flags. One flag was left in no-man's land.

Deathwatch got 1-st turn and with the first couple volleys obliterated 2 ironclads before those got the smokes off. One of them exploded and dealt a bunch of wounds to all the characters and scouts arount it. Though, 2 helblasters in one squad and 1 in another overheated to death. The rest of the shooting killed a couple scouts here and there and dealt 3 or 4 wounds to contemptors. Deathwatch gunline is brutal - they basically re-roll everything and get +1 to-wound strategems to boot. Regular bolters can get to ap3, they can't be tarpitted...great army overall - just explaining to someone who's not familliar with deathwatch. They're marines +1 but with some limited options elsewhere like close to no special characters, much slimmer heavy support and fast attack and stuff like that. Though, due to overly defensive deployment, they only managed to complete 1 scoring mission out of 3 they got.

Mighty dreads slogged up the field, healed up with a help of techmarine, shot everything they had and killed 8 or 9 helblasters. They ended their movement right outside the 15" mark from a ruin - which was supposed to force helblasters out. Dreads scored a lot of VP thanks to board controle.

Than Deathwatch decided it was time to push to the limit - they went forward and got Intercessors and helblasters in rapid fire range but this meant they had to leave the ruin behind. Shooting and MW strategems killed one contemptor dread and dropped the other one to 3 wounds. Still, no victory points.

Mighty dreads pushed forward, killed some Intercessors and helblasters and maged to get 2 remaining dreads, Lieutenant and techmarine into combat killing 6 helblasters, tying another squad and killing some extra inceptors. Scouts scored another bunch of points and dreads got far ahead on VP.

The opponent decided to give up as there was close to 0 chance of catching up on points, he had all his helblasters killed or tied up and there were not enough inceptors to turn the tide. There probably was still a chance because watchmaster is really good and Intercessors could probably still luck out and deal a bunch of wound to a dread but he was allready out of CP and it was allready late in the evening to continue.

Victory for The Mighty Dreadnaughts!

Next battle coming up - it's gona be a struggle against a tough-as-nails necron list featuring the best they've got and...of course Mighty Dreadnaughts!
