BFG Rulebook says 4 shields for standart battleship. Can not their number be changed in favor of balance?

Up or down? The narrative description for the Space Marine Battle Barge (which has 3 shields) clarifies that the term "Battle Barge" refers to a role rather than a class and other battleship/grand cruiser hulls have been modified in the past to run the same statlines, while IIRC Mechanicus upgrades and campaign upgrades can bump Imperial battleships up to 5, but if you tell us more about what balance changes you're trying to effect it may help.

Mods may also want to move this to the Specialist Games section.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Nothing says a BS can't be damaged from the start if you run some sort of scenario, so you could give it less shields if it's about making the player ships protecting it. Or bump it up a bit if it's a really blinged AdMech (or Dark Mechanicus) improved command ship.

If you just think it's a balance problem for some other reason it might help if you actually told people why and what you'd like done.

For your own scenarios? I guess so.
In a standard game, they are pretty balanced with their points costs for their stats. What are you finding unbalanced?

Actually, I wanted to ask. Are the characteristics of the ships that are described in the BFG Rulebook canon? Or is something changed for the balance of the game?

And in the canon of warhammer, the characteristics of the ships are different?
For example, the work and the number of shields? Does it work in the same way as written in the Rulebook?

It varies from book to source book, author to author to be honest - some operate more like Star Wars ships so they let some damage through, others inviolate until they drop, some have them covering different areas and arcs.

Warhammer canon is seldom firm.

That can easily be different ship makes.

They aren't like titan void-shields, they are obviously massive, a battle barge cane be kilometres in length.

Execution Hour is the novel written for Battlefleet Gothic. If you want a story to give you a sense of BFG in terms of the feel of the setting, that's the best bet. (The omnibus edition was reprinted recently and might be cheaper.)

Since we're in the background forum, the stats for various systems in BFG aren't a direct representation of those systems. A battleship with a Shield stat of 4 doesn't necessarily mean it has four individual Void shields - just that they're about twice as good as the shields on a cruiser.

I would think that they have dozens of local shield generators, each of which is multiply layered; repeated hits to one location could drop the shields at that location while the rest of the ship is unaffected.

Likewise for turrets and primary weapons - a "point" of weapons battery could be a single massive laser installation, a bank of smaller weapons (plasma weaponry, smaller lasers, something more exotic like graviton or conversion beam projectors or projectile weapons) or direct-fire missile launchers.

Imperial ships, even the 'small' ones can have titans climbing on them like a dog has fleas. And since titans have several void shields each in 40k or epic...

So I think we all understand that 4 shields is only relevant in that it's twice as big as 2 shields.
