Yes, you can do that, but it doesn't work as well as you think it does. If you can see even a femtometer of the model, you can shoot it. You'd need a literal solid brick to block all LOS. In your example there are thousands (if not infinite) amount of lines I can draw for LOS.

Yes it is really hard if you are close to you models...but if you move close to the enemy model that wants to shoot...you can block him pretty good.... here i hide 3 hive guard behind the wings

I can still see those hive guard. They are visible through some of the small holes in the wing. Also there's a sliver of base showing underneath the wing. That's all you need to target them.
Also bear in mind that most units targeting those hive guard will be on the same level as the tyrants, and thus able to see through the big gaps underneath the wings, that you only can't see through in your photo because you're looking down at around a 20 degree angle.

All that aside, this sort of thing is known as 'modelling for advantage', and is heavily frowned upon in practically every place you might try to play your army.

You're not the first to try this sort of thing by a long shot. There's a long history of people doing stuff like building their marines all lying down on their bases to hide out of line of sight behind walls.
Long range snipers being modelled on top of tall trees to let them see over things.
I've even heard of people putting a giant sandbag wall on their models bases to try and block line of sight to the models behind it.

This sort of thing doesn't go down too well with most people. Build your models to look good, not to game the system.

ofc you realize this is a fun thread...would never build my models to game the system...who does that? ive never met anyone till now. why waste my models anyways? i personally care more for the looks and collecting than actually playing! just had a thought and a question at the same time

It’s cool... everyone focusses down Hive Tyrants first anyway!

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"

They remind me of gargoyles the tv series.
