Hi. No longer AoS, but W Fantasy.

How do you pronounce Khemri? I saw a youtuber hving the silent K (Hemri). But the egyptian god Khepri does not have a silent K. Shurly, it would be like that?

A lot of youtube comments praised the pronounciation in the video.

For Khepri (and presumably Khemri) that opening consonant doesn't really have an equivalent in English. It's a voiceless alveolar or uvular fricative - think something like the sound at the end of Scots words like 'loch' and 'broch'. Not a hard 'k', nor a soft 'h', but somewhere in between.

I've always pronounced it sort of like the "ch" sound you see in some Jewish words and names like "Chaim", which sounds about like the sound kadeton described.

This thread is educational! i like that.

I admit i've pronounced it with the first part like the "chem" in "chemical". but i never thought much about it.

I'm not a linguist, but according to Total War: Warhammer, it's pronounced thus: https://youtu.be/FsBXxhKp06s?t=3m27s

Granted, in-game, Khalida doesn't pronounce it like that, so maybe it's a regional thing.

Oh God, these threads are back?!
Anyway: “chem-re”. Like the first part of chemical, followed by the first two letters of reed.

I was going to ask why not use 'read' to explain pronunciation then I remembered how weird English is...

Yeah, that whole “past tense, present tense” thing threw a monkey wrench into using “read”. Lol

In Total War Warhammer 2 Settra pronounces it as Hemri with an emphasis on the H. I am sure not going to disagree with Settra.
