Probably a silly question but do flyers follow the same rules for LOS blocking terrain as normal units or are they considered way up in the air and can see everything (when not hovering)?

For example I have large LOS blocking mountains in the centre of my battlefield and a unit of havocs cannot see a stormraven on the other side of it, can they choose it as a target?

I am aware that this is a rare occurrence as most tables don't use 'mountains' but it's been an issue with our gaming group for a while now.

You measure LOS to any part of the physical model, using True Line of Sight. You measure ranges to the base of the flyer if it has one, or the hull if it doesn't.

There is no abstraction when it comes to LOS in 8th, you literally draw an imaginary line between one part of the shooting model and one part of the targeting model. If it can get there uninterrupted, even the tiniest sliver, they have full LOS.

From "Stepping into a new edition" FAQ:
Q: How do I determine if a model is visible to another model?
A: The models are visible to each other if you can draw a straight, uninterrupted line between any part of one model to any part of the other.

Do note as BCB has pointed out, in order to be declared as a target, particularly during shooting phase, you need to have both tLOS as well as be in range of a weapon the model is equipped with.

To cleary answer the OP, yes. Unless a model has a rule allowing it to ignore LOS, all units follow the LOS rules.
