I'm trying to learn how to make my own terrain at a professional level.

I'm likewise interested in building and learning about scale modelling in architecture. So that I can lay out a design in 3D programs such as Zbrush or sketch up and recreate it in plasticard/foam-board.

So I'm looking for a reliable source. in Toronto to buy plasticard bulk, and Foam-board.

I'm likewise interested in a cutting pad I've seen on some model tables. What's a good place to buy one of those.

Is there a handy book that I might purchase that has some advice.

I have a basic understanding of medieval architecture up until the renaissance. I've also helped build a few houses with my father So I understand the rudiments of architecture.

So right now I have this thing. [url=https://postimg.cc/image/n93c6fppn/]

. I want to practice on. So I'm looking for ideas. How should I expand on it? Maybe a stair case? Any thoughts you might have? Building a doorway or panels.

I found this source for plasticard https://www.amazon.ca/LITKO-Game-Accessories-Plasticard-Variety/dp/B00MR5EIN6 I'm hoping that someone has a better source in the Toronto area.

I'm particularly interested in finding plastic Bricks or whatever plasticard is made of. I want to build a castle by Bricks. I would also accept balsa wood brick. I would prefer a pre cut. If it's possible to find. I suppose I could use semi rounded stones but I feel that might be heavy and hard to work with

I have googled this quite a bit. But maybe I missed something or someone has a cheap source. Thanks again for your time.

Look up the actual companies and find a bulk source site for them, namely Plastruct and Evergreen. This is only if you're looking for genuine textured plasticard, etc. For normal sheet plasticard consider cheap "For Sale" signs from a hardware store.

The Plastruct catalogue is mind-blowing to read through, but you can find some hobby sites which sell more or less everything they produce. It ain't cheap.

Is this a fair price for foam board? I've never worked with the stuff. Where might I likewise buy foam core board.

No idea what Canadian prices are like (or if that's cheap or not). Any craft store will have a large selection of similar stuff. Office supply stores will also have it - including display boards (the three piece folding ones you used in grade good for science projects), etc.

No, that seems pretty high. I get mine at Dollarama. Most dollar stores seem to carry foamboard. In a pinch, you should be able to find it at Walmart, but you'll pay a bit more.

The best bet to find plasticard would be any hobby/model shop. If they don't know what you're referring to, the technical term is "sheet styrene".

Is the foam board here in the video bellow, the kind you find in a dollaramma? Or do I need a specific kind?

It's usually white, but other than that it's the same stuff. You may be able to find some with a black exterior too, but I've never seen any with black foam in the middle before. Since you'll want to paint it after you're done building, the color of the board doesn't really matter.

I used these hanging blinds sections. You can get them at any department store, or find them at your friend's house
They work, however they are slightly too thick.

And any hobby store that is mini or war-hammer related should have a plasticard pack. That is where I got my pack.

For terrain I recommend googling (balsa wood mordheim terrain) for inspiration
https://www.google.com/search?q=balsa+wood+mordheim+terrain&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjDss3Y1qfcAhVprlQKHZn8B9EQ_AUICygC&biw=1920&bih=969#imgrc=_
and (cardboard monastery model) the architecture students make pretty amazing stuff just with cardboard and heavy card-stock.
https://www.google.com/search?biw=1920&bih=969&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=wrBOW9-8Aoal8APLmrioDw&q=cardboard+monestary+model&oq=cardboard+monestary+model&gs_l=img.3...7618.9043.0.9344.9.9.0.0.0.0.98.679.8.8.0....0...1c.1.64.img..1.2.190...0i7i30k1j0i8i7i30k1.0.MIaRfYakbgs#imgrc=_

Also, watching the "Making of - Lord of the Rings", the part from WETA workshop when they go over the model terrain sets they have built.

And the materials Id start with is card-stock and balsa wood, very ez materials to work with. (balsa wood bags can be found in hobby stores)

For scenery I would recommend foamed pvc rather than foamboard. You can buy it in the UK super cheap as offcuts from industrial suppliers. The 3mm thick stuff is fine for building scenery with using an occasional internal.support. The 5mm thick stuff is super rigid but over the top for normal buildings.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!
