Would love to hear what you guys think of the standard bearer! I keep doing these every couple of years to test where my skills are at.

Thanks for looking!

He looks great! I really envy you for your painting skills! As you seem to be quite skilled at freehanding I'd suggest to freehand the number "II" next time in order for it to blend in better and not to use a decal. Honestly, you really seem to have no need for a decal in such a simple shape.

You can’t say you paint one every few years and then only post the newest guy. Let’s see the lineup!

Needs more red trim and you put the wrong company number on him.

Could I ask how long it took you?

It’s not the wrong company, there is to much metal flake in the yellow paint is the problem

But seriously, a fantastic job on the standard, how did you get the leather look texture?

Never tire of seeing your Ultramarines. Always so wonderfully-painted and this one is no exception.

Always love seeing these guys, the kitbashes in your whole army are awesome considering it's something as subtle as giving this guy the Sternguard arm.

How did you paint the banner, as in the initial design? I'd love to be able to paint a banner like that but never convinced myself I'd get it symmetrical or consistent enough.

Wow. My Ultramarines are far, very far from yours.

Great job.

Thanks for the awesome feedback everybody! Wonderful to see so many comments.

@Castor the banner itself was somewhere in the realm of 10 hours. I'm not quite sure; it's hard to say. I definitely did it over a decent number of long sessions.

@Rybrook do you mean leather finish on the standard? Or the paintwork for the codpiece straps? If you mean the banner it may just be that the command squad set is old so the mould is a bit questionable

@Valkyrie I was quite surprised myself by how easy it was! I got a mechanical pencil and dissected the banner space into 8 small squares by drawing one line down the middle and 3 across to make 4 squares either side of the center. After that it was really about placing the Ultra freehand as central as possible - the rest of the design fit in around it quite easily then.

I thought you'd say something like that. Patience is clearly a big part of it (in addition to skill obviously).

How long did you spend on the rest of the model?

Greetings lipsdapips, Excellent free-hand!

I really like all the Ultra Bitz on the Standard Bearer!

I am not sure but it looks like You made a plastic kit look like it was made of metal. Great paint work!

Here are some older banners that I did. There's a super old one that I can't find a photo of, but hopefully the progression should be clear enough!
