I recently started stocking some Warlord Games stuff and after reading the Bolt Action rules I couldn't wait to get started on an army and start playing. After living in a GW bubble for nearly 30 yrs it's a refreshing change to finally try somethng else. Anyways I've gone for Germans and have finished my 1st squad.

Come on man, Warhammer isn't "oppressive".
Bolt Action is a great system and a brilliantly written rule set, and from a pure gaming standpoint, Bolt Action is one of my favorite game systems of all time, but lets be real- it doesn't scratch a sci fi itch.

I play Soviets in Bolt Action, and I always have a great time with my army of primarily regulars. I really enjoy the unique mixture the red army has of professional soldiers with excellent tanks contrasted with the sheer desperation of ampulomets, dog mines and hurriedly conscripted reserves. I would definitely look into picking up some of the theater books to play some specific scenarios if your friends pick up any of the allied armies. Germans have a wealth of campaign books to choose from, and they are all really good from Market Garden and Battle of the Bulge to Road to Berlin. I've played a few of the Road to Berlin Campaigns with my German playing buddy and they add a lot of neat dynamics to the game. I also started French Foreign Legion and am waiting for any African Campaign books with baited breath.

Have fun playing Bolt Action, Germans get the best toys!
