Working on some neoprene/mousepad/2D Sylvaneth Wyldwoods so they’re easier to store/transport/play on and I’m deciding on how best to mark the three circles where the trees go. Originally I had thought of doing some little airbrush thing to give a stark outline with a gradient towards the middle kind of deal, but I’ve since discovered the indents for the trees don’t meet the ground but are slightly raised up, so I wouldn’t get that hard outline. Instead I’m thinking Sharpie like I used on the outline, but do I want to stick with black or see about getting a colored one? Black makes a decent enough generic color, white would be more stark, or should I do green to blend in? What about different greens to mark which woods belong to which larger Wyldwood (I’ve got two more mats to make twelve total woods). Or do you have ideas I may have not yet considered?

All finished. Full dozen neoprene “Citadel Woods” to use for my Sylvaneth Wyldwoods. MUCH easier to use, store, and transport than the thicker rougher 3d bases I had been using. Did three each of four colors for the circles marking the trees’ locations so it’s also easier to keep track of which templates belong to which Wyldwood grouping.

I appreciate what you are accomplishing. I think as a base for trees they'd be fine. But if you aren't actually putting trees on those, for me that would kill my interest.

Usually a tree per base or two. The trees are huge, a pain in the butt to transport, and get in the way, but look cool so I try to keep a few around for aesthetic.

Instead of trees, you can get 50mm bases, put scenery on them, and put those in the circles. Gives scenery without big branches getting in the way.

This is actually a really good idea. I do like the GW woods fine but damn do those trees get in the way of big models.

This is pretty awesome actually. I'd do what was suggested above and build that 50mm base tall Los blocking terrain that's easier to transport.

I like the idea of neoprene ground templates but I wish they were images of the ground to put trees on instead of aerial images of treetops.

Neat rule that not everyone knows about: the trees on the citadel woods are intended to block big creatures from being able to move through them. As confirmed through dev blogs and tactical articles the design team posted.

I see a lot of people moving the trees out of the way so that their big dragons etc can get through when in they aren't supposed to be moving through the woods at all if the trees block their movement.

I wish they had that as an actual rule somewhere and not just a comment on a blog. What’s the link for submitting questions for the FAQs?

And agreed, it'd be nice if this was somewhere other than that buried blog (which, for all we know, may not be "official" even if it seems so).

Edited to add:
I can already hear the tears and cries of outrage if this comes out in an official FAQ from the Sylvaneth players already butt-hurt about the LOS blocking rule from Citadel Woods applying to the Wyldwoods...

One thing about the mats, you might want to get some plasticard to put under them for support. There’s a Sylvaneth spell that will move a forest and everything on it up to 2d6” which can be impossible to do without taking everything off if it isn’t rigid.

Granted there is not a straight up rule that calls this out and I'd also be in the camp in favor for a hard rule that calls this out, but any designer docs or tactics articles that I find on their official communication channels I use for rules disputes in my events.
