Hello Guys,
I was thinking recently about how bad it is for assault armies that are using transporters to get into
CC. You can disembark only at the beginning of your movement phase, which means, when you get to the position, enemy has whole turn to beat the crap out of you in shooting phase and assault your transporter as well.
In this video (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ec_PZH0gQn4) Commissar Gamza suggested that vehicle can be used after models disembark to assault the enemy unit and soak all the overwatch fire. While this make some sens, as transport has much more toughness than infantry, it's still leaving this open window for your opponent to smash you badly in his turn.
My solution for this would be:
- Get close to the enemy with your transporter, as normal
- Shoot to them whatever you have on the transporter, as normal
- And now, do not just give up, waiting for next turn to disembark. ASSAULT on the enemy with the transporter. It will give you extra movement, will lock enemy in combat so they will be unable to fire you back, transporter will still soak all overwatch. In enemy's turn they will be unable to shoot to you with other units, as you will be in
CC with one of their unit.
- In your next turn, disembark while being locked in
CC with transporter. They are not saying you can not. You don't even have to use any specific access points. Just be 3" around the transporter, and 1" away from the enemy. Then move, and assault as normal.
- Fall back with transporter if you feel it's in danger or if they crack open your transporter, not only your boys will get some
dmg while trying to escape transporter, but while exploding you will
dmg enemy models around. Keep in mind, if they destroy transporter waiting for disembark in shooting phase, only you will suffer extra
dmg.
Of course you don't want to charge on 10 Custodian Wardens with Rhino, but on anything that makes much more dakkadakka damage than in
CC. Devastators etc
I don't know if it's popular tactic, I haven't seen it anywhere yet.
Cheers,
Filq
