Ok so you're safe there are no tribbles here!

But there are questions! I've hummed and hared and right now I'm thinking KR might be the most suitable option for me to consider for storage and transport of models. I've read of the mania for magnetic boards and I can see how they work and their benefits, however I've a few considerations:

1) A magnetic tray and base system won't keep the models isolated as well as boxes and foam will with regard to dust. Dust is a pain; having to wash models is annoying - twice over if they are painted. So either way I've got to store them inside a case/container so cases and card with foam in seems a sensible option

2) One word - Khinerai. Right now I want to transport Daughters of Khaine and Khinerai are VERY fragile in how they are made. With most of the model held atop a thin stick of plastic that will wobble if shaken, I can see that if they are on magnetic bases then any shake/bouncing of the case is going to shake them around a lot. At best this means they'll tangle up with each other - at worst their tails might snap or bend or other parts get broken. Ergo they wouldn't work well for that kind of storage.
Now I haven't checked if its possible with KR but I could go half and half and have some magnetic (eg troops) and some foam so that might be one consideration.

So KR as an approach thus far I've been snooping around their site and have come up with the fact that most of their more practical to carry around cases (eg the backpack 4 or the Kaiser 4 - still think that even though it hasn't got straps the Kaiser looks nice/more pockets) contain 4 of their regular cardboard carriers.

1) I've worked out that if I went with their suggested slots for DoK I can fit around 160 sisters/witches in a single case; this would give room for 150 (5 groups of 30) and space for 10 or so (or less as they are a bit bigger) heroes (hag/slaughter queens). So that case is easy to work out.

2) Now the rest - Khinerai, Medusa, Doomfire Warlocks, Bloodwracks, Cauldrons/Shrines and gryph hounds (wait what they are not dok....- yes they are now!). These, going by their suggested sized foam containers on their DOK page don't appear to hold many.
https://www.krmulticase.com/games-workshop
(can't direct link the page itself so on the dropdown bar pick warhammer sigmar - then daughters of khaine to see the various options for foam that they suggest)

Eg 20 Blood Sisters (Melusai) sounds really small for a full card case that otherwise could hold over 100 infantry, and yet going by their suggested foam size that's all one could get (plus space for two 1/4 trays) in a single card box segment. Another good example is that they estimate 1 cauldron/shrine for half a case; which, again, doesn't sound like much
I'm unsure how they've worked out the spacings so would be curious how others have found their estimation accuracy. Otherwise it sounds like whilst I could carry as many infantry as I like, I'd have to be really selective on the rest to get them into the case.

Another consideration is that Daughters of Khaine have lots of spikes, spears, blades and generally thin fragile parts to them. They are not the nice easy chunky marine with nothing but firm smooth curved edges. So how is their foam and transporting for more "spiky fragile" armies.

If any here have any thoughts of ideas or input I'd welcome it - even if your ideas are not related to KR and you're going to suggest something totally different.

I kind of checked out halfway though your post but kr makes good stuff. I have a kaiser 3 and a dozen card cases I swap out of it that I've been using since about 2010 and they've held up great. I recently got some custom cut stuff for vehicles and its awesome too. I'd take their foam over any other competitor.

Basic infantry pack really tight. Larger stuff takes more space. No idea how big some of the elf stuff is. If you are talking terminator sized, you probably want a half deep tray, probably 15 minis to a tray. Stuff that’s on 32s you can probably do in 1/3rd deep trays. Cavalry is going to be taller then bikes, not sure how much so though. A lot of the larger models are going to take up half the width of a box, full depth. Just the nature of big stuff. You end up with almost all your model count of infantry in one box, but the handful of odd shaped things taking up the lion’s share of the bag.

I mostly just keep Space Marines and Craftworld Eldar in my KR, so can’t really speak for stabby spiky bits. As long as you are careful to make sure they don’t snag on the foam, you should be ok. I also tend to think of trays in marine equivalents.

I've got several KR cases, and carried everything from 15mm Flames of War models to DFC ships to several 40k armies and Bolt Action armies.

KR is great for

*Oddly shaped models that don't really like to fit into typical foam
*Models that have more dynamic poses, like IG leaders who tend to have a sword and pistol arm or are pointing
*Models that are lightweight

They're not so great for

*Delicate models. I've had several bolt action rifles break on the older kits because of how thin the plastic is
*heavy models. The lack of that solid bottom piece means the foam flexes quite a bit coming out of the case.
*Models that don't take up much space, meaning they'll bounce around in the foam more thanks to the soft sides and bottom.

Make of that what you will. To some degree all foam has this issue, the main weakness with KR is honestly just the weight in my opinion, the rest isn't too different from experiences I've had with Battlefoam and other types.

For example, I was in a car wreck 4 years ago, rear ended a guy going about 40mph, absolutely totaled the car. My guardsmen, who were plastic and fairly dynamic in pose, survived the crash without a scratch. My Flames of War German army however was mostly metal and had a ton of tanks with thin metal barrels that had some spare room to wiggle a bit. Some of them came out of the case looking like they were made in a pretzel factory. I actually found a fender from one of the tanks in it just the other day.

I've owned a KR case for close to 10 years now, I think. I'd advise going for one of the canvas types as opposed to the aluminum ones, you have significant weight savings and it'll start looking tatty a lot slower. Mine has had one of the sides stripped to the bare MDF when the thin aluminum foil kind of stuff started bubbling up. and the underside is totally scratched up.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Quite fond of their cases myself. I just use the standard size card case with the F3HS foam loudout for pretty much anything and everything. The soft foam is kind to more delecate bits, can hold normal sized or squeeze in larger ones, and is easily torn to make custom slots if required. If you have extra large ones I like just flipping one tray upside down on top of the one below it to hold stuff like tanks or treelords.

I like KR cases; it's how I store the majority of my miniatures. I find the options and codes on their website a bit off-putting, so for anything unusual or complex, I write or call them. The staff there are very helpful and can usually give you some solid advice on the best option for you.
