Now if you want to buy a fantasy miniature it must be for AoS.

Not happy, at least I get my order for nine 50x75mm bases in a couple of weeks ago.

There are enough companies that sell square bases. It's been 3 years without a GW system that uses squares.

I'd have loved a warning. I'd have gone on a bender ordering stuff I need.

To be fair this was expected and I'm surprised they were still there; considering that everything has been Age of Sigmar for well over a year and GW hasn't made anything new with a square base.

Well that inspired me to pick up some off ebay right now while its still easy.

I wish I got into all this sooner. I have really enjoyed exploring 6th edition. I feel like I really missed out.

I still love a huge ranked army on the table and that can only be done with squares very effectively. GW has really tried to move away from this to smaller battles, since it keeps the army start up cost lower with fewer models - oh, it is still a lot of $, though! I just think GW saw the writing on the wall about "Let's give them 50 models for their $300 instead of 150 models for $300."

6th edition is a real blast. It is my favourite edition by a long shot.

You can just make your own you know, its not hard. But it is a bummer, I guess it proves that the age of rank and file games from GW is finally over.

Not the best news. I'll have to look elsewhere when buying my right angle base upgrade packs. I hope the reason they dropped them was just that sales of square bases had dropped to low to justify storing them.

I noticed while trying to order some 50mm square bases earlier this week. I put out this warning here on Dakka and on the 9th Age site.

When I went to my GW store this afternoon I spoke to the manager about it, he had heard nothing and was surprised enough to go check.

Like KTG17 I have begun quietly ordering bases off ebay. I have a fair few but need more for expansion room. yes I can use other manufacturers but they don't look the same, I like thee consistency of using bases from one manufacturer.

If needs be I could start a new army with another companies bases, but it would be all or nothing for that faction. And if I can I would like to extend consistency for all my warhammer and warhammer legacy armies. To me this consistency is important. I doubt I am alone in this so I thought you all deserved the heads up.

The line collapse has been done so quietly retail managers apparently didn't know about it.

Let me use a quote of the Annoying Orange: KNIFE!

Sorry couldn't resist

I wonder what an impact it will make in a few years when I ran out of GW bases and will have to use ones of e.g. Mantic.

Not sure if it's going to make that much of a difference, especially if you use a moving tray with a bit of paint and putty on it, too.

The Mantic ones have 90 degree edges, if memory serves, while the GW ones have around a 60-75 degree slope. It's very discernible as far as differences go.

I began using MDF-cut squares long ago but I know for sure there are some chinese vendors over on aliexpress/gearbest/etc that sell plastics with exactly the same shape as GW's for something like 10-15cts a piece in large packs.

Product Piracy for the win!

Though I would'nt go that far in terms of black square bases.

It has no round corners which would be fething piracy

I wonder if GW would sell the mold as long as the GW identifiers were filed off?

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Most sculpted bases for WHFB sizes use the bevelled edges at the same ratio as GW stock. So you can buy resin bases compatible.

This makes sense as must resin base manufacturers make a master from the freesculpt on top of a GW base.

There are a lot of third party bases out there and most use flat sides. I frankly never liked them, they don't rank up as well even though it appears they should rank seamlessly. This is because you have to keep the edges extra neat and clean. Bevelled edges allow a small amount of give because a miniscule overlap is not really noticable and removing a casualty doesnt disturb the formation.

Citadel's slottabases are one of the things GW got right fist time. It will do what I can to get enough bases for my entire planned collection. I had a good head start by talking to AoS players on launch and giving them my round bases in return for thier square ones.
I bought a lot of getting started kits for various factions, as key GW stock suddenly became affordable for the first time in years (from third party retailers). This meant a lot of extra round and oval bases for trade.

I have a large bag full of bags of square bases, the outer bag is about the size of a pillow, even so I am short some items. Ogre army clean ate through my stocks of 40x40, and I cancelled zombie summon horde (went with skeletons) and slave heavy skaven (actually put the entire Skaven army build on hold for now) to ensure I have enough 20x20 for all my armies.

As stated before I am collecting for 6th, 8th and 9th Age
