Does anyone have links to terrain that looks suitably fantastic for AOS but is not the super-pricey GW kits? I don't have the time or patience to make my own terrain, and my FLGS is in dire need of better terrain as most of it is 40k or meant for old WHFB/Kings of War (blocky hills, medieval-style buildings etc.).

For me, AOS needs to have cool fantasy terrain that's more than just buildings. I'm just having a hard time finding anything suitable from third-party sources. I like the GW terrain, but they are expensive to fill even one table, let alone like 3-4 tables worth of terrain.

Does anyone have any ideas or things they have used that doesn't involve making the terrain from scratch?

Hmmm. I have some terrain thats generic lakes, rivers, hills and mountain stuff thats not GW.

But that could also be used in historicals so its not really fantasy based.

Not sure to be honest. You can try hitting up pet stores for ruins that work as well.

What sort of stuff do you mean? Rocky crags, rifts, that sort of thing?

pre-painted and not to expensive for it. We buy most of our scenery here at our club.

Cheap MDF scenery. Needs assembly and painting. But for the fantasy stuff it can go pretty fast with a can of texture paint and a drybrush...

Basically, terrain that A) Matters in the game (so no hills, as they do nothing) and B) Looks suitably "fantastic" for AOS (so not just medieval-style buildings that are meant for historical gaming). My FLGS is in dire need of some more terrain pieces that work for AOS rather than being legacy WHFB stuff.

Vacuum-formed terrain you'd need to build and paint. Looks cool for the price, not got any myself yet though.

I purchased a large number of trees and caves from pet stores. My table looks a lot like a forest however larger trees have openings and things that are effective as buildings. Can also build some small platforms on the larger trees and such that add to them.

A fun alternative we have done is getting some hard foam and using hot knife/wire to make fanciful floating rocks designs ala Avatar, using cooked spaghetti as vines, then plopping a few cheap model train trees into it. Barring that you can use the same method to make cool hills, menhirs, and all kinds of stuff!

I picked up a bunch of the Reaper Bones models to use as terrain. Dragon plants, Shoggoths, purple worms, they’ve got tons of stuff you can use that’s both cheap and very durable. I put it on upside-down 50mm bases and it slots right into the holes on GW forest bases.

If you’re up for building a few bits you should check the Terrain Tutor on you tube. Loads of great vid and tips, you’ll fill a table in no time.
Although it might not have the flare of AoS it’s still worth checking out.

Michael’s craft store has wood kit castles, towers and stuff like that right now; probably more at home in WHFB, but it’s an option if fighting on a backwater realm world.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Doesn't your flgs stock GW?
Get them to to buy GW terrain at trade price for you.
Come up with some agreement that you will buy and paint it and lend to the store for a minimum of X months/years.
I don't think any store owner would refuse.

Terrain Crate, I think that's it, has a line of terrain kits that are suitable for fantasy settings. I have been looking for decent terrain kits too ever since I got back into 40k but it seems like everyone wants a fair chunk of change for them.

Homemade terrain is great and I have a few projects on the go but it takes a lot of effort to get quality results. Kits you can just buy and paint and bam, good looking terrain.

On a more functional level, there are some really great looking dice towers out there. What better way for terrain to serve a purpose than by ensuring fair dice rolling?

Gets along better with animals... Go figure.
