I've bought the Kill Team starter and each of the new ruins (Administratum, Sanctum and Basilicanum) which means I have a decent amount of terrain building ahead of me. I'm going to skip the instructions and get a little more creative with the bunch, so I'm interested in seeing what others have managed to build.

So show us your builds from the new kits!

I’ve stuck strictly to the instructions until I’ve got a better idea of how stuff goes together, in particular the shattered floor sections, most of which can be comined into more-or-less compete sections.

Next up I think is the big kit, which I’ll pick up on Saturday, alongside the new Kill Zone set (not that I really need the terrain contained in that, but more containers isn’t a bad thing!). I may get more adventurous with that one, as I think I’ve got a decent enough handle on how to tweak it all.

Okay so this is what I managed to build. I went with the instructions initially to see how stuff plays together, but the second piece is built without instructions. Just a lovely piece of kit overall.

I have a question for those who have built this new terrain. How much of it actually needs to be glued together? Is it possible to glue together some small modular subsections and then clip or otherwise temporarily fix those subsections together for use?

The reason I'm asking is that I don't have room to store large permanently assembled terrain pieces. Those huge buildings Weazel posted look absolutely awesome, but there's literally no way I could store those anywhere. If they can be partly disassembled between games, that would be great.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

You don't have to glue the walls to the floor below, so these 3 story ruins can be stored as 3 individual floors, which helps with storage. The unglued floors remain sturdy enough to place models on but will obviously topple over with sufficient force. HTH.

@Weazel: only 1 out of those 7 of your images worked.

Got the first ruin painted. Used pretty much the Duncan's scheme except used Stegadon Scale Green for floors instead of grey.

Might build a base someday, but it's not a priority at the moment.

Looks really good. Might steal that floor color

I went with a little inefficient build as I used four walls to make a closed tower. This week I will get another set from the Kill Team Starterbox and I will cut down the pillars to have some floors that are just 3" high and not 5". I'll keep you posted.

I'm changing my mind on GW's terrain. I just assembled the Galvanic Magnavent in my Renegade box and it's a lot heavier plastic than I expected. I ordered some of the Killzones because of it - those bundles bring the prince down significantly.

And now I'm looking at that Basilicanum and thinking it might be big enough to justify that price tag.

Well not going to lie, the kits are pretty expensive. However the amount of detail you get versus anything you scratch build yourself is just incredible (unless you're a professional terrain builder). Add to the equation being a family man and being constantly starved for available free time I think they are well worth the price tag.

The Kill Team box is good value. There is basically a Basilicanum kit (without the statues) and a Ruins kit in the box. And obviously all the KT goodies as well.

Okay first I said I would cut the new terrain down to 3" which I did for one piece. The problem is the new terrain is not designed to be cut short. The high windows make the floortiles look really awkward and unsupported when you glue them in. So i made a little something that deviates from the stuff I've seen so far.

They are great looking kits. I'm a bit tired of the aesthetic, but they're very well done. It is a shame they're very minimal with regard to use in 40K (without some house rules). I understand they can't just sell sheets of plasticard, but I'd have like to see more effort on blocking line of sight.

Looks so much better than the old terrain kits though. Great for skirmish games and large centrepiece models.

There are a lot of wall pieces with LOS blocking up to around half the height of the wall sections. That is plenty to block LOS to at least big infantry sized models and even some tanks. I've built all my ground level walls with these pieces and they block LOS pretty nicely overall.
