So what do you find works for you? What do you use in battle that you find helps you out when gaming.

There are loads of counter options out there, and GW even makes a lot of dice plus there's numerous laser pointers, movement widgets, counter types, dice types, rules etc....

So what do you use, what do you find works and what hasn't worked for you.
Note it helps to not what game - 40K, Sigmar, Warhammer, Blitzbowl, Mantic, Kingom Death etc...

Personally I always find a good well written army list helps out a lot, though I will often write out a reminder sheet too. I use that to list any and all upgrades that I've chosen for my units and any modified stats as a result as well as spells, items taken and the stat effect they have. Depending on the game size and army I might make both sheets one and the same (ergo most units have a stat modifier) or use separate if its only a couple of units that are modified from their default.
It's also a good place to list any errrata/update changes so that its all in one spot rather than having to refer to another document (though I'd always still have the document printed out in full anyway as a reference point if my opponent requests to see it).

I've also some of the old mini-dice which I use for wound counters (though I'm thinking I'll need more or the larger GW dice or something else since the number of multi-wound models has gone up in general)

I use a program called Magic Set Editor to make M:tG style cards.

(I'll edit in some example pics when I'm out of work)

I made cards for warlord traits, doctrines, spells and powers, etc. I need to make some new ones, been a while.

Most of these apply to 40K.

1) I use a cheat sheet (well a pair of them) for each codex. In colour, laminated. These cheat sheets include all of my units, their costs, profiles, all the weapons, stratagems, warlord traits, relics, special rules, chapter/craftworld traits, etc. I replace these sheets every couple of months as I buy or sell units/models, and as GW changes things with chapter approved, FAQs, erratas etc. I started the sheets with an index and have kept them up to date since. I also keep a note on each sheet for the date it was created and what changes it includes. This has proven to be the most time-saving device yet. Including the current and up to date points costs I can make an army using the list and it contains all the info in my codex that I actually need during a game. I keep the codex with me anyway for verification if asked.

2) I use consistent dice for each army (colour matched, with an army icon on the '6') and always keep two colours available, for ease of rolling separate profiles/weapons in a single roll. Simple enough, but helps a bit.

3) Use a consistent set of D12 dice for wound markers. D12 covers pretty much every model I own (no superheavies), and do not get confused for D6s and picked up...never use D6s, even if they're other colours!

4) I do have access to custom tokens for my armies and their abilities. I only have tokens done up for abilities which last for a phase, or longer. I don't use them all the time, but on occasion when I think I may forget. The token sets include CPs as well (which are numbered on the reverse side for use as hidden-deployment counters for narrative games).

5) I have some actual D3 dice which I use for certain units. The Obliterators, for example, have a weapon profile which is rolled each time they shoot, and requires 3D3 (one for added strength, one for AP, and one for damage). I just roll the three dice and use the values from left to right. I use actual D3 dice so my opponent can read the results with no issue and I explain "I'm going to apply these left to right on the weapon profile". Is this necessary? Not at all, but it makes using the Obliterators faster and more easy to understand for my opponent. I also keep those dice on the table till the attacks are resolved.

Free program, easy to use. If you dig around there are templates to make unit cards and other such things.

Other things I use (for assorted games)
Plastic report covers and wet erase markers a/o grease pencils are good for games with complex record sheets where you need to check off a lot of boxes. Or just photocopies/printouts, but I prefer the reusable format.

Poker chips have a number of uses. Number them with a grease pencil for hidden deployment, write a quick “-1 to hit” on one and toss it next to a debuffed unit, etc.

I like to keep polyhedral dice in my kit for marking wounds. Much less likely to be accidentally picked up and rolled like a stray d6. Similarly, I keep an oversized d6 in my box for marking the turn.

BattleScribe printouts instead of the open books strewn everywhere. Also use the cards to have stratagems, psychic powers and objectives.

I have a kit - looks like a kid’s lunchbox with my game accessories in it. I have a different kit for each game I play - Bolt Action, Warhammer 40K/Fantasy, Runewars, X-Wing, etc. Lets me grab and go whenever I’m ready for a game and know I have the essentials.

For previous editions, I had tokens for the various vehicle damage conditions and certain effects (smoke, pinned, fear, etc.) - they don’t get much use now. Most of my other kits have acrylic tokens to track the various in-game effects (unlike GW, I’m not adverse to having tokens on the board; it’s a game, not a miniatures diorama). Also, for my 40K kit, I have a set of acrylic tokens (they look like holographic flags) for use in marking objectives.

I too have an oversized die (the size of my fist) for keeping track of the turns.

Also keep handy a laser pointer, good for our games of SWA and figuring out LOS.

Perhaps the most unusual thing in each kit I keep is $1.25 in quarters. Usable for random marker or, in case of emergency a snack or other quick purchase.

It never ends well

Clever! I love the idea of having a gaming "kit" that you can grab and keep convenient.

The snack fund is an excellent idea. Well thought out. Same reason I have a bag of quarters in my car. Snacks and paying for tire air at the gas station.

Nice, I also use Magic set editor. I have not found a work around for the low resolution though.

The cards look great, but it would be nice if I could get the resolution up so that smaller text is more readable.

Muse on Minis wooden token and measuring items for WMH. War room app for building and keeping track of my army. Pre organize the wooden token before the game so I’m sort of ready before hand and don’t have to search for spell markers
